Galaxy S22This is an update on this issue since I posted an inquiry about this issue the other day.
Since the latest Android 15/System UI 7.0 software update the GPS on my Samsung Galaxy S22 is still running almost constantly in the background, and the GPS icon remains on in the status bar almost all the time too.I have been conducting an investigation, attempting to troubleshoot this issue, attempting to find some sort of workaround to help resolve this matter, doing soft resets and other things.
I have made some progress though. By accessing the app permissions from the LOCATION section in the settings menu, I have been able to access the location permissions of several more apps which were greyed out and inaccessible previously the other day, and have been able to change their location permissions to ALLOW ONLY WHILE USING THE APP. But, there are still several system apps permissions settings which I've found to be greyed out and inaccessible yet.
At least since this past week, since the update, the battery drain has been significantly reduced.
Recommend you access the Developer Options Menu and enable the Wireless Debugging every time you connect to your WiFi network and begin downloading one of these Android Software Updates, and remove the sim card from the phone as safely precautions. These measures have helped keep my Samsung Galaxy S22 from suffering more serious irreparable effects of these updates since that last buggy Android 14 update, which caused a lot of irreparable issues and damage to many people's Samsung Galaxy phones as I recall.
Hopefully, they will implement a major bug fix in the next monthly Android software update to conquer all the issues this operating system upgrade has caused. Hopefully they will address the GPS issue and unlock the remaining greyed out location permissions for those system apps, or change them so the GPS doesn't run continuously.
I'm sure the next monthly update will be almost as large as the Android 15 update itself.
In the meantime, do daily soft resets and check the app permissions from the LOCATION section, including as many system apps as it will allow you to access, and adjust the location permissions, changing them from ALL THE TIME to ALLOW ONLY WHILE USING THE APP. This does help reduce the load on the phone processor and reduce data usage and reduce unnecessary battery drain.

Gps was always on. Only difference is now it shows you the green dot in status bar. I had it turned off before when it was on but never showed me. And now after update its also on. Only this time it tells u with green dot that its on.
