I had same issue, I found this and it worked.
Go To Settings > Apps > Click On Three Bars > Show System Apps Then Ok > Search Device Security App
Clear Cache And Data
Then Scan Phone Again

What does the Beta version offer that makes it more desirable than the stable release ?

As a general rule I'd stay away from beta releases for the potential for disaster. Unless your a beta tester, which I most certainly am not. So I'm content to leave the beta releases, and await the more stable version just to be on the safe side..
