Now that Google has moved maps Location History to phone memory only, I am concerned about losing this data. I use location history extensively and now find the need to do a factory reset. I understand that I can export the location history data but there is no way to import it. I think the only way to preserve it is to do a cloud backup / reset / restore.
Can anybody confirm that Maps location history data will be restored when restoring a backup?
Thank you!

There does not seem to be a specific category in backup for backing up the location history, however, it may be rolled into another backup category. I guess the only way to find out is to download your location history to preserve it and then do your reset and see if it comes back. If you need to reset, you need to reset, and sometimes that results in losing info. That's why people hate to do it. Another option would be to make a complete backup via Smart Swith using a computer or flash drive or external hard drive. This should copy everything on your phone except the operating system and restoring it would bring everything back.
