Are you on Verizon, cause to get visual voicemail you need to pay per month, and if you don't subscribe its just normal voicemail. You do get visual for free for a limited time when you first get the phone.
If you have an unlocked model that was not preloaded with your carrier apps you should be able to download your carrier's voice mail app from the Play Store.
@Rcst4eldr Usually voice mail is set up in the Phone app on "1" as a speed dial. All you need to do is long press on the 1 to dial your carrier's voice mail service.
