I thought they're not supposed to change your settings when they do updates everything's changed Everything all the way down to my font to not being able to pull down and get to the settings quicker this is absolutely ridiculous I'm getting reminders on notifications which I stopped because it was out of control what was really ticking me off was that I can't have a separate sound for my actual text messages and then a sound for my notification for my social media how are they going to do something like that That's so stupid Even my keyboard stuff has changed what the heck how are you going to do an update and change everything I've got on my phone

I mean even showing the battery percentage is lame I don't like it why are they changing so much if they're going to want to change that much they should ask permission it's not just updating to keep it secure or fixing a bug I mean give me a break how are you going to change so much on a phone and not ask permission

The battery percentage is my biggest gripe because it's not just an aesthetics thing but a usability one. It's hard to read on most backgrounds and impossible on the AOD screen. Very poor design

The Nowbar is also a usability mis-step. It's as if they had a very small echo chamber group designing and testing because there is a very linear way they want you to interact with the phone. (Although you can find complaints with the battery during the beta process, but they still went ahead with it anyway)

There are other options available to quickly see your battery level.  I honestly don't know why people are melting down over this.  Unattractive and out of place, certainly, but enough to turn people crazy over it? No.  I don't have the update yet, so I can't really pass judgement on it, but in all the photos, it looks perfectly fine and readable to me, even when I reduce the size of the photos to actual screen size for a real comparison.  Another thing, people should already know how long their phone's uptime typically is, so they shouldn't have to keep checking the level.  One can always set a routine to remind them when their battery goes below a certain point in order to make sure they have time to get to a charger.

The battery looks fine in pictures to me too. But when you actually have it on your phone it's a different story. The fact that you haven't even used the update and yet are trying to counter people's experience is rather odd to say the least.

People should know their phones uptime? Not everyone uses their phones the same everyday. And why should people have to add extra things like widgets and routines? All the answers are the same, add steps to try and recreate something that was just there and more than enough for many. Being able to see your batter level is important with battery operated tools of any kind.

Your response is seemingly as presumptuous as those behind this update which is inconsiderate of the diversity of the end users.

When one's phone has a full charge, one can go to settings/battery and check how long the battery is expected to last based on usage patterns.  Yes, people may use their phones differently day to day, but not usually in a big way.  One may get more phone calls on one day, watch some videos on another, have more waiting around time where they are web surfing or game playing, but the general usage is in the same range.   You can hardly go anywhere without being in a place where you can plug in and charge and power banks are a thing, and chargers are not hard to carry around or borrow.  One can, guess what, actually go to the settings/battery and see what their level is and how much more time they are expected to get.  There are also widgets one can add to their screen if they *need* to see their level at a glance.  One can create a routine to remind them that their battery is below a certain level, and set that level to a point where they still have enough time to use their phone and still have time to find a charger/charging station (I use 30% - still gives me 5 hours of use before power saving turns on).

I get that people are used to just glancing at the status bar to see the level, but it's not the be all and end all, and if people find the new indicator annoying, register your displeasure by emailing the CEO or sending feedback to the development team or hiding the icon from the status bar so they don't have to face the horror.

I'm old. Learning new things is part of life. If you switch brands, you will have to learn a new phone AND do without a lot of features you are used to. You do not have to be old to not like change, but adaptability is a gift and there are much worse things happening in the world than having to deal with a change to the way your phone works. Also, this is an Android update as well, so some of the changes are because of Google.

There are other options to see your battery percentage - add a battery widget to your screen, actually go to the settings and look, download an app, create a routine to tell you when your battery hits certain levels.
