Message app worked fine for months, then stopped notifications for new texts.
In the app settings, under notifications, I recall seeing a setting for "alerts", that setting is not there anymore. Notifications are enabled, all contacts are enabled for notifying.
Need help, thanks

Samsung app. Actually I tried the Google app and it seemed to work ok, ended up doing the same thing.

It has "allow notifications" box checked but below it says "configure in messages".
I thought at one time it showed something about alert messages when it was working properly

Open the Messages app: on your Samsung phone.

Tap the More options icon (three vertical dots) to open the menu.

Tap Settings.

Choose a category: to configure, such as:

Notifications: Control notification behavior (Sound, vibration, pop-up, etc.) for messages.

Bubbles: Adjust floating chat bubbles for conversations.

Spam Protection: Enable or disable the feature that protects you from unwanted spam.

RCS Chat features: Manage settings for Rich Communication Services, including read receipts and typing indicators.

Customizing Notification Sounds

In the main Settings menu, tap on Notifications.

If needed, enable Advanced settings and then toggle on Manage notification categories for each app to see more options.

Tap Notification categories to view specific message types.

Tap on the category you want to adjust (e.g., New messages) and choose your preferred sound.

If I open up notifications in settings and go and look at the messaging apps both have a grayed out mute symbol next to their respective icons
