how can I manually merge different contacts together like before - all there is now is an automatic merge based on similarity which means that contacts that don't appear to be same but actually are don't get picked up.

And I can't find an option to manually link contacts together on the new samsung. without that feature, it leaves my contacts so disorganised and a pain in the  to sort through if I know have to rename them all the same so they are picked up to merge!

I'm not really clear on what you are trying to accomplish, but my first thought is to add desired contacts to custom groups. You could create a group for, say, your club or whatever, and add all the members. If you're trying to pair spouses it would be very time consuming to set up. Perhaps a little more detail would be helpful.

Simply ensure the both contacts have the same name and/or phone number and/or email address and they will show up in the list to be merged.

that's the point - why should you have to do that? especially since there was a time when you didnt.

the iphone allows you to link/merge which ever contacts you want across different lists. and once upon a time, the same could be done on the samsung and google groups - simply select two contacts, go to more, and select link/merge. the only way you can merge any contacts together now is for samsung to automatically pick them up as duplicates. there is no way to do this yourself. unless I'm wrong. is there a way to manually link/merge contacts that samsung does not pick up as duplicates?
