Airpods Completely Unusable With S23

Device: Samsung Galaxy S23

Android Version: 14

Issue: After a phone call is received, audio fails to play through AirPods despite being connected. “Media Output” panel intermittently stops displaying available audio output sources entirely. Rebooting fixes the issue until another call is received. UPDATE: Rebooting no longer fixes the issue. Airpods completely unusable with S23.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Connect AirPods (4th gen, regular — no stem controls) via Bluetooth.

  2. Attempt to play audio from Musicolet, YouTube, or other apps.

  3. Take a phone call. Observe that:

    • AirPods show as connected in Bluetooth settings.

    • Volume is up, “Audio” is toggled ON under Bluetooth options.

    • No sound plays through AirPods (only connection chime heard).

    • Media Output panel sometimes shows nothing — no device list, just music player.

  4. Rebooting temporarily restores Media Output list, but the issue recurs as soon as I get a new call.

Troubleshooting already done:

  • Re-paired AirPods multiple times.

  • Reset network settings.

  • Force-stopped all media apps (Musicolet, YouTube, Spotify, etc.).

  • Tested other Bluetooth devices (no similar problems experienced).

  • Toggled audio output manually via Media Output (still no sound).

  • Confirmed audio routing toggles (Calls/Audio) are active.

  • Media Output panel stopped showing available outputs entirely, even after fresh boot.

Request:

Please advise if:

  • There is a known issue with AirPods and the S23 audio routing layer.

  • There is a way to fully reset or repair the Media Output system UI.

  • A fix is planned for this in an upcoming update.

This issue severely affects daily usability — thank you in advance.

I received an email about a reply to this post but I don't see it anywhere in the actual post here.

You don't submit bug reports here on the forum. The procedure for submitting a report is to go to the support tab of the members app and select "send feedback". The app will collect your logs and submit them. Sorry you will have to write that whole thing again or you can copy and paste it into the feedback report.

that's not what i meant. what i meant is, someone posted here, but when i got here the post had disappeared. regardless, i took their suggestion and sent feedback, but is anyone going to actually get back to me about it? normally when websites say "send feedback", i send feedback and they send nothing back. this is a serious issue i'm having here. my airpods are basically unusable with my samsung, and samsung doesn't have a great track record of customer support in my experience.

The poster who posted most likely deleted their post before you got to read it.

You will get a response to your feedback, but it may take a week or more, as they go over your logs and description.

fingers crossed... my airpods have now completely stopped working with my S23, even after I restart the phone.

Any idea when I will get a response? And you guys are sure I will get a response? My airpods are completely unusable with my Samsung. I've even tried someone else's airpods and the result is the same. Is there no other way to escalate this?
