I just opened my phone and realized Samsung wants us to switch to Google messages. I am not ok with this. This is a dumb idea. Google messages did not work well when I 1st bought my phone and I'm sure it doesn't work any better now. Please let us keep the option for Samsung messages. I'm sure many Samsung users feel the same way.

The RCS capabilities of Samsung Messaging relies on the carrier supporting RCS, not the app. Kind of like the iPhone. If the carrier decides to stop supporting Jibe RCS on their end, then even if the app supports it, it will stop.

Google Messages has the API to use their own Jibe servers so it doesn't need to rely on the carrier.

This is probably the carriers passing the burden of Android RCS to Google and only supporting the ones for the iPhone instead of supporting 2 implementations.

While true, I will argue that this becomes another Google Monopoly... Forcing users into their app revokes choice. Now, could you download a third party app instead? Yep, sure can. However, Samsung is pushing users to Google Messages instead, which is not cool and DEFINITELY NOT an upgrade....

I must agree that this is a VERY bad move... As I have stated in the past for the last time Samsung has tried this, Google Messages (GM) does NOT compare to the powerful features that Samsung Messages (SM) has that many of us use regularly:
1. Categories: This makes a world of a difference when it comes to conversation sorting. GM does not have this...
2. Conversation Backgrounds: SM allows users to have ANY picture as a background and it's per conversation. GM only gives the option to change colors, which is directly tied to the recipient's side too, meaning users and their recipients must agree on a color. FAR from ideal....
3. GoodLock: Removing SM would also remove a perk we have with GoodLock Labs: Further customization for light and dark themes for conversation list colors, message bubble colors, etc.. Discontinuing would essentially tell us "good luck" with the lack of customization...
4. AI: While there is many things AI is good for, user's messages ain't one of them. SM is not plagued by AI and is another massive reason SM should not be removed...

These are only FOUR of the POWERFUL features that SM has over GM that are heavily used. Please for the love of all that is holy, don't get rid of SM....

I want to add the series of bugs the app appeared to have since February of this year. They did not have strong reviews then and so far the only suggestions made by Google in response was "check for updates" and "uninstall and reinstall the app". There are no longer term solutions for their bugs and isn't Google still under heat with updating their security certifications like Microsoft?!? Can we trust them with our data right now?

If I wanted Google I'd have a Google phone. If I cared that much about hearting messages, I'd have switched to Google already. Please do not force your customers to make this AWFUL switch.

It is but no reason to allow Google to read my text messages. Android is just a version of Linux. If you're a techie you can flash your phone and remove most of the Google bloat
