Galaxy S23@Dojo27 As a troubleshooting step, you can boot into safe mode. If the camera works while booted in safe mode then the issue is caused by a 3rd party app on your phone. Then you will need to delete the offending 3rd party app.
To boot in safe mode, https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/
If that doesn't provide any benefit, you can run the diagnostics in the Samsung Members app -> Support. It will determine if the hardware is working.

Galaxy S23Hi Dojo27, welcome to the Community. I know how frustrating that can be for your camera to not work properly, and I would be more than happy to assist you. I would agree with what LongHiker said about trying your device in safe mode, but I do have some other troubleshooting steps you can try.
First I would restart your device
Next I would reset the camera app by going into the camera app>tap on the settings icon>tap on reset settings>reset. After this go back to settings>About Camera and check to see if an update is available.
Next verify your device is up-to-date
If nothing else works I would suggest performing a factory data reset. Please remember to back up your device so nothing is lost.
Perform a factory reset on your Galaxy phone or tablet
If you are still encountering any issues, please visit a Samsung walk-in service center or you can schedule a repair service online.
