After the One UI 7 update I've noticed in Google Messages that if I long press (to paste) there is the Galaxy AI icon. I have all of the AI features disabled. This shouldn't appear there. Just to test if it was a bug showing the icon, I clicked it. This brought up the Writing Assist panel that should be disabled.

I'm not sure if there are other apps that have the same issue, but I noticed this one this morning. I did attempt to test in Google Search Bar and it was not present.

If I click the settings icon in the Writing Assist panel, it takes me to Settings > Galaxy AI > Writing Assist where it does show that it is disabled. I verified the sub-setting "Chat Translation" was disabled as well.

This is obviously either a bug, or intentional. I hope it is a bug and that we have true control over Galaxy AI being enabled on our phones.

Need a patch to fix this issue please.

UPDATE: This bug is present here in Samsung Members as well.

Same here. I turned off all new AI settings. (Hate that it reenabled Bixby and installed gemini) It's still showing. It doesnt need to be there. It feels like an ad "jUsT iN cASe YoU wAnNa TrY aI" No. 1746277748964.jpg

Same here. I hate all this AI stuff Samsung is trying to force down our throats. Let us turn it off, ALL THE WAY OFF, or watch your customers drop you like a hot rock! At this point it's no secret AI isn't as popular as you thought it would be and it's bloody awful for the planet, so stop trying to force it on us!!

I am experiencing this as well and it's really messing with my muscle memory. I'm getting close to wiping my S24U and flashing a rooted rom. I got this phone specifically because of how minimal the useless bloat software is (imo, having owned 2 other samsungs) and for the stylus. Feeling really burnt and belittled by Samsung and the fanboys as if I'm I luddite for not wanting these sweeping changes forcefully added onto my phone as "poweruser" features are axed.

Edit: typo

I'm sick and tired of Samsung and Google forcing AI garbage onto me like some twisted kink. My S24U is 100% without a doubt my last Samsung phone, ever. No amount of back walking will restore my trust in this awful ecosystem. Samsung was starting to get worse than apple anyways.

god yes I'm so tired. what's worse, it doesn't just show the ai icon, every time I try to paste I accidentally hit the words "writing assist" because that stupid button pops up in place of where the paste used to be. I am so sick of AI and it's only going to get worse, it's making me want to rip my hair out.

Same problem, same disappointment, same desire to eliminate that button from the copy/paste popup once and forever.

After updating to One UI 7, I'm experiencing a very frustrating issue: the Writing Assist feature still appears even though it’s completely disabled in the settings.

I’ve turned off all Galaxy AI options – including Writing Assist and Chat Translation – yet when I long press in apps like Google Messages or even Samsung Members, the Writing Assist icon still shows up. If I tap it, the full panel opens, despite everything being turned OFF in Settings > Galaxy AI > Writing Assist.

This is either a serious bug or Samsung is forcing AI features even when disabled, which is completely unacceptable. A long press is supposed to show Paste, not unwanted AI tools that were explicitly turned off.

Please acknowledge this issue and release a fix as soon as possible. We should have full control over Galaxy AI and our device experience.

Device: Galaxy Fold 5
One UI version: 7
Status: Writing Assist – disabled
Still appears: Yes (Google Messages, Samsung Members)

Please fix this ASAP. We paid for premium devices, not forced AI prompts.
