The update that happened on my phone about 2 days ago is causing a huge glitch with my messaging. Specifically the rcs chat feature. Which does not work on my phone now for some reason. My service provider nor Google has been any help. I've turned on and off features, restarted my phone several times, cleared cache and data, nothing works. It now says that rcs has been disabled by my carrier. They have no idea what I'm talking about. They also weren't much help in trying to find a solution. I have group chats that I can no longer access and reply to. So I create new ones and people's responses are going to the old group chat that I can't type in. And at one point, people were responding and I couldn't even see their messages at all. Has anyone else had this issue and been able to resolve it??? I can't even respond in my works group chat.

I've got the same phone and I hate the update. I want the old ui back. I don't like the new drop down menu and I don't like the way they changed every single app icon. Give me settings to change my phone back to how it's been for the last year.

This does not address the OP's issue.  The OP is asking for assistance, not a group whine about the update and you are cluttering up the post and others may pile on and the OP will get no usable advice.

Google Messaging app began acting peculiarly yesterday, 20250508, taking a lot longer to open and its RCS feature disconnected leaving only plain text. However, I was able to perform a restart and get it working again. YMMV but I'm on what might now be viewed as an ancient artifact - a Galaxy S7.

You said you cleared the app's cache and data, did you clear the *phone's* cache?

1. Power off your phone. Hold Power and vol up buttons until Samsung Logo appears

2. Let go of both buttons when you see the Samsung Logo appear on screen. There will be a delay while it enters recovery mode.

3. Use the volume buttons to navigate through recovery menu options and highlight ā€œWipe Cache Partition.ā€ Press power button to select this option . Confirm by navigating to the yes response and tapping the power button to select.

5. When wiping cache partition is complete, "reboot system now" should be highlighted; press power key to select it . The phone will reboot as normal.

Clearing the phone cache after an update can solve or prevent a host of problems.  If clearing the cache partition does not work, you should try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. You should not lose any messages this way, but I suggest backing them up just in case.

If this does not work, you may have to take the nuclear action and reset the phone and restore your backup.  Resetting the phone gives you a clean operating system and restoring your backup puts your apps, settings and data back.

If none of that works, put in an error report.

Thank you, this seems to have fixed my issue with Google Messages not being able to download group texts (on the S23 Ultra)

Happy to help. If you wouldn't mind marking my post as your solution, it will make it easy for others to find.

THANK YOU!!! You saved my mom's family chats! I got her a S24 Ultra for xmas, not that she uses the pen she just needed the bigger screen. But I had tried everything except the phone's cache. I haven't had a Samsung in so long I forgot they can be buggy and need to have their cache wiped after updates. I converted to Motorola and OnePlus (bounce between the two depending on deals when I need a new phone) about 10 years ago and haven't gone back.
