How can I stop this from happening? I contacted support, but even after granting them remote access to my phone, they still weren't able to turn this feature off.

Open Gallery, click the 3 lines at the bottom (first screenshot) go to "Customization Service" (2nd screenshot) click it. You may be promoted to "agree" to user agreement. Turn off the stories....(3rd screen shot)SmartSelect_20240515_114208_Gallery_1000028706_1715791328.jpgSmartSelect_20240515_114151_Gallery_1000028705_1715791311.jpg1715791343834.jpg

Are you sure it's gallery and not photos?

I'm pretty sure. I don't have an app called 'photos' on my phone. The notifications for the stories created are from the gallery app.

Ok. Google Photos also creates stories. If you tried the steps above and are still having issues I am out of recommendations. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Weird that is exactly what mine was doing and I was able to turn it off using the initial steps I provided. I am sorry I wasn't able to help you
