So I have configured the built-in voice recorder app to record via my Galaxy Buds 1 headphones. I have them in a case connected, but open. Why the heck is the recording constantly stopping after 1 or 2 seconds? It says "recording stopped" and I can continue by tapping the red circle button, but again after 1 second it stops! What weird functionality is this?

Galaxy S23@McVitas Why are you recording with the buds in the case?

Galaxy S23Buds, Galaxy or otherwise, do not work inside the case. In order to use them for recording, you have to be wearing them. The setting inside the voice recorder app is to make sure that if you are using a connected mic (buds), that the app will not look to the phone's internal mics for sound input.

Galaxy S23"Buds, Galaxy or otherwise, do not work inside the case" - this is arguably just wrong, because if the case is open they CONNECT to the phone, you can change settings in the wearable app and they do PLAY the sound from the phone, so I think you can't just say they don't work!
So for me it does not really make much sense why they don't want to also record in this state if they do everything else.
As for why would I do it - I think it is pretty simple - I want to use them as an external microphone and keeping them in a case keeps them charged and also harder to be lost because they would not just roll out of the table on the floor for example. I think that makes sense.

Galaxy S23It is not arguably wrong, it's a fact. They might be connected, but that does not mean they are usable. The mics are still inside the case. Try taking a call with them in the case. Please learn how things work. There is no bud on the planet that will record or have working mics while inside the case. Connected does not mean functional. And, why would you open the case to connect the buds, and then select the phone to answer a call? If you are going to use the buds, use them as they were designed.

Galaxy S23I am simply stating what they do and ASKING why don't they do the rest, so no need to be mean! Obviously they are not usable as a speaker because when they are in case you can't hear them, but it is not so clear why the microphone does not work. I am sorry I am not an expert on wireless earbuds so I have no idea if there are any which would record while being charged from the case and I don't know where exactly is the microphone. My use case is pretty clear so you might have at least admitted that this makes sense!
And asking on the forum is also learning. Unfortunately it is common to stumble upon people who feel that it is necessary to bash everyone who dares to ask 😒

Galaxy S23Try taking the buds out of the case if you want to record without wearing them. I am certain, though, that once you switch the audio for a phone call to the phone itself, the buds will not record - in or out of the case, as all sound is transferred to the phone mics and speakers. If you are trying to record something with the voice recorder, what's the point of doing it through disconnected buds rather than the phone itself? By design, buds do not work while charging, even if they connect to the phone. The in-case connection is a convenience factor. i suggest you just let your buds complete the charging cycle and do your recording through the phone's mic.

Galaxy S23as for the microphone position. I just found there are two microphones per each bud. One outer and one inner. If I wear the buds then one microphone is inside the ear canal and the other one is pointing outwards. So basically it is the same situation as if you put them in the case and leave it open.
As for playing I was actually wrong - if the buds are connected to the charging pins they don't play. The sound basically goes nowhere.
The thing is that the recording DOES WORK and you can record around 1-2 seconds but then the recorder app pauses. So no, there is no technical reason why wouldn't they work this way. Only the app somehow refuses to record longer then 1-2 seconds

Galaxy S23No, it is not the same situation at all. It may have two mics, and removing them from the case would probably (maybe) allow them to record, but certain devices are actually programmed to not work while charging, buds being one of them. Some buds (and I am sure Samsung's very expensive ones do) have "in ear detection" and won't function unless they are actually situated in your ear. Why would you possibly need the buds to record while charging anyway? The phone has mics for that, unless your phone mics are not working, which is a bigger issue.

Galaxy S23it would be great if you actually read what I posted before answering, because I already explained why I want my buds to use for recording!
but let me repeat that and add more information: I want to use them as an external microphone! Imagine being on some lecture or presentation where you sit among many people, but you want to record the presenter from a close proximity, so this would work great if I could just put the headphones on the table next to him and keep them in a case to make sure they stay charged and also don't just roll on the floor. Also it kind of looks like someone forgot it there if I would just put them there alone wouldn't it? Using buds to record would also allow me to use my phone and type notes during the session without risk of introducing noises into the recording. I have recorded many such sessions already and any manipulation with the phone during the recording creates really loud noises unfortunatelly.
