How to add Outlook to Contacts sync?

I would like to sync contacts on a Samsung S24 Ultra with an Outlook account. But in the Contacts app, the Outlook account isn't listed as an option.

I install the Microsoft Outlook account, from Samsung's store. I log in to my Outlook account and the app syncs my contacts.

I check the Outlook application permissions, and Allow Contacts and accounts.

In the phone's Contacts app, Contact Settings, I select Default storage location. My Outlook account is not among those listed. If I attempt to Add an account, I'm sent to the Outlook app, where I've already added the account, and can't add it again. If I delete the account, in the Outlook application, I can add it through Contact Settings, but again that doesn't allow me to select the Outlook account to sync my phone's contacts.

I see, in the phone's settings, there may be a problem. Accounts and Backup > Manage Accounts, none of the instances of this Microsoft account allow for syncing of contacts. There is a sync for OneDrive, but nothing for Contacts. If I delete the Outlook account, in the Outlook app, then add it back, through Manage Accounts, as when I tried this via Contact Settings, I still don't get a new account in Manage Accounts, to which I can sync Contacts.

What step have I missed?

I am in the OneUI 8.5 beta and have reported this issue, there. Are others in the Beta able to sync contacts to Outlook?

Hello MarkCMessinger,
Thank you for interacting with Samsung Community. I understand you are having challenges syncing your outlook account with your Samsung S24 Ultra. I can see how this would be frustrating. I also like having all of my contacts in one central location in my phone. I have some troubleshooting steps for you that I hope helps correct this problem. When you are Unable to sync contacts on Galaxy phone, remember each account will have different options and settings, and some will require that service's app to be installed. (the phone must be connected to a Wi-fi or mobile network in order to sync data. Please follow the link , http://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshoot/TSG10001445/ and the steps provided. I hope this helps. If not, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of our moderators.
Thank you for being a part of Samsung Community. It is our honor to have you among us.

Thank you for the troubleshooting link. However, as I described in my original post, the Outlook account to which I want to sync my phone's Contacts does not appear among the accounts listed on the Manage Accounts screen. Using the Add Account link does not cause the Outlook account to subsequently appear on that list, either.

No problem! Out of curiosity, are you trying to sync a business or school Outlook account? When it's one of those, you will need to reach out to the company or school for further help as they have restrictions placed that prevent this. If this is a personal account, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Restart your device

2. Check your network connection

3. Change the sync settings for apps

4. Turn on auto sync data for your accounts(s)

5. Clear data from Samsung Cloud

6. Re-sync Samsung Cloud data

The following link has these steps in more detail if you'd like to take a look: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshoot/TSG10004547/

Please let me know if this helps ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, of course the simple solution was right there, all along...

There is a setting in the Microsoft Outlook app, I had failed to enable. Settings > Contacts > Sync contacts. It's not enabled, by default.

Once enabled - voila! - the Outlook account is able to be selected from within the phone's contact settings.

My problem has been resolved.
