I am trying to restore my text messages from S21+, which I no longer have, onto my s24u. But I do still have a backup in my Samsung Cloud. I did use Smart Switch to transfer and I thought all was good. But, my text messages did not transfer properly...

So I found this and tried it out:

Settings > accounts and backup > Under Samsung Cloud Section select retore data > select old phone > only tick Messages > click restore.

It shows Messages 100%. It says data restored. I click Done. It asks to delete old backups. I click LATER, and it goes back to the restore page.

I opened google messages, the "lost" text messages from Samsung text messaging app are not restored into Google Messages.

I open the Samsung messaging app and it wants me to choose "continue with samy messaging app" Or, "Open google messages". It wants me to change my default SMS app. I keep Google messages as the default.

I did try samsung messages. They were not there.

I went to Google messages, the "Lost" messages do not appear in either messaging app.

It is entirely possible that those missing texts were missing from your old phone before the Smart Switch transfer, or they would have transferred over.  If they were not actually on the old device, they would not be in the old device's backup.  Each nightly backup overwrites the previous backup, so if they went missing prior to the old device's last backup, they would not be in it. If they are so old that they are no longer on your carrier's servers or were generated when you were with another carrier, they would no longer be recoverable.  For future insurance, download SMS backup and restore from the Play store and set your messages to be backed up on a schedule, this way you will not lose your messages in a phone or carrier transfer, accidental deletion, some other type of glitch.

Hello, hannahmontana954.

You will need to make sure that your contacts are being synced to your Google account on your old device. Once you sign into your Google account on your new phone then the contacts should sync automatically.
