Hi All

I've just got my S24+ today to upgrade my trusty but ageing S10+ having not strayed from Samsung for almost 10 years. Naturally I was hoping it would be an upgrade in all departments but although on the whole it is, there's several annoying and unexpected downgrades that are making me seriously question whether it's actually worth spending quite a bit of money to change.

Firstly, the screen although pin sharp is really washed out. Even in vivid mode the colours are dull and the blacks are significantly more grey than the S10 screen, and even look washed out when put alongside my wife's budget spec A52! I've played around with brightness and colour tone etc but I can't dial it out, and my cousin who's got an S24 Ultra said exactly the same when comparing it against the S22 it's replacing.

Then there's some bizarre features missing from OneUI 6.1, the ones I've noticed so far are specifically in the Always On Display settings.  I use AOD to display as a bedside clock,  with my S10 and also in OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 on the A52 you can rotate the AOD to landscape orientation and control the brightness, you could even do the latter from the AOD lock screen by tapping twice on the clock to access the brightness slider. In OneUI 6.1 unless I'm missing something it seems all that functionality is missing, the brightness of the AOD is linked to the main screen brightness setting which is far too bright for overnight use, and you can't set it to landscape mode which I'd prefer when on it's horizontal night stand next to the bed. Why this functionality would be omitted I have no idea, but it's really annoying! Please someone enlighten me to some hidden menu somewhere that fixes all these issues?! šŸ™‚

"Is there an update that fix this problem and see vibrant/ colorful display on Galaxy S24 Ultra before the return period?
If not coming I'll return it!"

Haven't seen a real official announcement yet.

There's a pretty effective workaround on TechOdyssey's YT channel (he calls it a "fix," but I'd stop short of using that term). Anyway, after following the tips, I'm seeing near-OG S23U-level color vibrancy on my S24U. So if you're not feeling the not-so-vivid home screen "surprise," it could be worth a shot.

The Vivid display mode on my S24 Ultra looks virtually the same as the Natural display mode. Overall, the colors are duller and less vibrant when compared to my previous S21 Ultra.

I've turned off Eye comfort shield and Adaptive color tone features, so I know they aren't to blame.

Samsung Spain is saying that this is a 'feature' and I wholeheartedly disagree. Articles online are stating that this is a simple software bug that can be fixed via a software update. I wouldn't know, but if not, then at least say that is the fact instead of ignoring it and calling it a present.

Thank you.

I'm greatly disappointed in samsung with this five alarm mistake. Like buying a expensive car and the manufacturer saying the high beams being 2% brighter than normal mode is intended. It reminds me of apple iphone 4 antenna disaster then saying you're holding it wrong. What happened to the customer always being right? I know I'm not alone in this frustration with a really poor decision. I hope samsung fixes this as I am ready to return this phone so I can enjoy a simple feature that really allowed me to enjoy looking at my phone screen.

Your post may not be up very long. Samsung appears to be deleting any post that are critical of their decision to make the phone lifeless and depressing. Just go through the post and see how many you find that weren't posted today. (Mine has been deleted as well)

I'm with you.. I got my phone today and there's a multitude of things I'm just not happy with.. the orange is kind of vomity salmon color.. finger printer scanner wont work with any screen protector.. And the screen colors are just abysmal compared to my 4 year old phone. I believe i had this same issue with "samesung" way back on the galaxy s5 or s3.. I'm tired of their arrogance.. I'm sending mine back and just going to move on permanently..

Iā€™ve tried to get used to it. I just donā€™t think I can. Even an iPhone allows you to boost your saturation. If Samsung knew this theyā€™d probably wouldā€™ve included this option. It seems theyā€™re so desperate to imitate Apple they stopped listening to their customers. I am deciding today if Iā€™m going to return my ultra.
