System UI notifications cannot be muted

Since the latest system ui update my phone chimes 3-4 times in the middle night with no visible notification.  When I look at notification history there are hundreds from System UI.  I have do not disturb on, I have all notifications silenced that can be.  I cannot silence my phone because I need to receive text and calls.  No matter what I do I cannot silence these notifiations.  Almost all the options to stop system ui notifications are greyed out and it has permission to override my do not disturb and it is also greyed out.  Any help would be appreciated.

If you turn sleep mode on at night, you can add an action to it to mute the system sounds.  Open sleep mode, add action "sound mode and sound volume" and then make sure the system sound is at 0%.  You can turn sleep mode on manually (there's a quick panel icon or you can put a widget on your screen), or you can automate it. If you do not use sleep mode, you can just open the volume panel and turn the system sound all the way down before you go to bed.  You can also just hit the sound icon on the quick panel to toggle the sound off.  Any number of ways for peace and quiet.

I haven't ever used modes because I haven't needed to but I set it up to see if it would work.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Modes and routines are awesome.  You never know you need them until you start doing things with them; then you wonder how you did without them.  It's so easy to automate processes or a series of actions that would be tedious to do manually and/or have to remember to do and undo.  If you set up the mode, though, be sure to reconfigure the DND within the mode.  Each instance of DND can have separate actions. The default for sleep mode is everything is off, so if you need certain phone calls to get through, you need to allow it.

They're not awesome, and people wouldn't need them if pointless UI updates weren't pushed out so some CEO or board member could stroke themself at the sight of a number on a graph going up.

You know what? You think they are useless, don't use them. Using modes and routines has nothing to to with operating system deficiencies and everything to do with letting a user do customized actions, since no one can anticipate what eveyone wants and build it into an operating system. Seriously, if you hate Samsung do much, find another brand. Find one that lets you do as much customizing. You are one of those people who finds fault with everything, aren't you? Don't bother responding, you are not .worth another second of my eyeball time.

I don't see any reason why any of those settings should be greyed out and unusable, or why you should be getting system pings with DND on.  After the update did you clear your phone's cache partition?  Sometimes leftover junk interferes with things.

I didn't know about that I have done it now.  We'll have to see if it helps.  The options to turn off System UI notifications is still greyed out.  Here's the main screen where the choice is greyed out and a sample from battery notifications that have been waking me up.  Neither can be changed.  You will see from the screen shots sound and vibration is turned off but I still get the sound even though I've set DND to only allow texts and calls.  It's random too because I might have 5 or 6 or more notifications but only 3 will make noise. It's so frustrating.

You are looking in the wrong place.  Leave those settings alone. That's why they are greyed out.  You turn off the system sounds volume in the volume control panel.  Follow my instructions.  If those settings weren't greyed out, you would be turning off all system sounds, and you would not get possible critical notifications at any time, sleep or not.  You are better off muting them on demand through either modes & routines, at the volume panel level or at the quick panel.

The actual more important question is why you are getting dings with DND on.

The reason I was trying to access those is because the DND had the system sounds off but I kept hearing them.  It is also strange that there is toggle but it can't ever be used.  I have only gotten the sound from battery charging notifications and media ongoing activity.  If I go to notification history from yesterday to today there are over 300 System UI notifications.  Seems obsessive to trigger a repeat notification for battery charging or media ongoing activity.
