I am very disturbed with the Google Messaging switch. I tried it & it does NOT compare to Samsung Messaging! The RCS feature is not needed. Sure one can send emoji responses on a message like iPhone but if that's what one desires, GET AN IPHONE! It only works when the receiving party uses the same RCS feature on their Android phone anyway. The overall features on the Samsung Messaging app has way more personal customization features that make each & every chat/group more visible & organized. I will stick with Samsung Messaging until forced to switch on ALL platforms.

In fact, I just read that you won't even be able to download the app on newer models.

Per the announcement page:

"โ€ข Once the Samsung Messages app is discontinued, sending messages via Samsung Messages on your phone will no longer be possible, except for emergency service numbers or emergency contacts defined in your device.

โ€ข For Samsung devices released before 2022, switching messaging applications may temporarily disrupt ongoing RCS conversations. However, RCS conversations can resume if both parties switch to Google Messages. MMS/SMS messaging will remain available during this period.

โ€ข Owners of the Galaxy S26 and newer devices cannot download the Samsung Messages app from the Galaxy Store. All other devices will no longer be able to download the Samsung Messages app from the Galaxy Store after Samsung Messages is discontinued in July 2026."

The RCS capabilities of Samsung Messaging relies on the carrier supporting RCS, not the app. Kind of like the iPhone. If the carrier decides to stop supporting Jibe RCS on their end, then even if the app supports it, it will stop.

Google Messages has the API to use their own Jibe servers so it doesn't need to rely on the carrier.

This is probably the carriers passing the burden of Android RCS to Google and only supporting the ones for the iPhone instead of supporting 2 implementations.

This is a terrible idea, I already deleted Google messages because I don't like their data harvesting and selling practices.

At most, 3 of the phones that I have had throughout all the phones I have owned have been non-samsung phones. There is a reason why I have always chose Samsung so to see that my phones OWN messaging system is being discontinued and being replaced with Google messages is incredibly disappointing! I do not want to be forced to transition to Google messages! They do not have good feedback at all! I might as well go to Apple at this point!
