So back in January, I got the android 16 and oneui 8.0 update. I recently discovered that my visual voicemail app was no longer connecting to my service provider (Visible) and was totally out of sync. So I contacted them to investigate. After over an hour of investigation, I felt like I was getting the run around so I switched to Xfinity Mobile and lo and behold, the same issue.

It seems the latest update to the voicemail app no longer connects to service providers natively. I've tried almost everything I found on the net other than factory resetting my phone.

Has anyone else seen this and how did you resolve it if you did?

I tried all those and morning worked as I mentioned. Pressing *86 or long pressing "1" seems like a huge step backwards in 2026. Why pay all that $$ for a "smart phone" only to do the same thing I could do on flip phone???

That's like saying a hammer hasn't changed in a thousand years, yet we all know there's better ways to get a nail in a board.

I appreciate the sentiment but if you're going to include software with a phone you're selling them either make it work or don't block other apps from working. I can't even disable the Samsung Visual Voicemail to use Google's because Samsung blocks you from enabling it. So either they fix their stuff, or let another app work, or ultimately lose long term customers who are fed up with more expensive phones that are lower in user experience.

Visual voicemail is a carrier issue

If it was just Visible, I'd be inclined to agree, but then the same issue after switching to Xfinity?? Highly suspicious. I'm not gonna switch to Verizon just to find out for sure.

That's why I'm not inclined to check with Verizon and Verizon also has it's own voicemail app.

When I was using a T-Mobile MVNO on my Samsung phone, I never got the native voicemail app to work. However, I downloaded T-Mobile's voicemail app and it worked fine.

You may want to download Verizon's voicemail app and see if it works. If you have a phone with model number ending in U, you should already have Verizon's app since it would have loaded all of Verizon's apps on your phone. If you are on a factory unlocked phone with model number ending in U1, check with the service provider for a link to their voicemail app.

Xfinity Mobile has a mobile voicemail app on the Google Play Store.

Interestingly the Xfinity voicemail app is no longer working and you get a message saying to use the native app. I couldn't find a Verizon VM app on Google Play. My phone is unlocked so it didn't come with any carrier specific software.
