I've noticed around the beginning of the year that group chats that I'm in aren't loading their messages. They are coming in individually to me from that person outside of the group chat to me directly, each one needs to be downloaded but mostly show the download icon, it never comes through.
I've attempted to restart, RCS chats settings, airplane mode off/on again work no success.
What else can I do to fix this?

- If Google Messages is failing to download group chats automatically? That could happen if you’ve mistakenly disabled the auto-download MMS feature. Here’s how you can enable it. Note: if it's enabled already, tap it off then back on again.
Open the Messages app > Profile icon > Settings > Advanced > Enable "Auto-download MMS".
- Google Messages may have trouble downloading MMS messages if you’ve imposed background data restrictions on the app.
Here’s how to change that.
Go to device settings > apps > google Messages > Mobile Data > "Allow background data usage".
- If you have a mobile data plan and a SIM card inserted, mobile data will be on by default. Ensure setting hasn't been mistakenly turned off, by Following the steps below to check if "mobile data" is on.
Step 1. Launch the device Settings , and then select Connections.
Step 2. Tap Data usage.
Step 3. Make sure that "Mobile data" is enabled.
- Also ensure "data saver" isn't enabled under same menu
If you are still having issues with group chats not downloading, then you will need to contact your carrier for assistance.
