Galaxy S25I asked Gemini why my S25+charging speeds are in the toilet following an update to OneUI 8.5, and it said this is a known issue with the update? I've been checking it and it'll get to to 5W here and there, but it's just so bad now. I drained the battery to 7% to be able to see how much it would take in when it would pull the most power, and I see... This. Just nuts.
This is on a 45W charger and a 3A cable, as the S25 series added a new profile that let it charge at full 45W speeds with even a 3A cable... and up until the update it was getting the full 45W easil. I was so excited.
Now I'd just be happy to see it stay at 5W ๐ตโ๐ซ. Please tell me there's a patch or a fix coming for this, this is just ridiculous. And I was very excited for the update, I love how it looks and it is really slick and all, but I definitely need faster charging speeds.
Gemini's response below:
The OneUI 8.5 update is currently causing widespread charging and thermal issues for S25 series users, with many reporting speeds dropping to **2.3W** (identical to your screenshot) due to aggressive thermal throttling or software bugs. Your diagnostic shows a **Current Flow of 1,145 mA** and a **Voltage of 3.67 V**, which confirms the device is barely pulling any power despite the low **9% battery level**, where speeds should normally be at their peak.
Why this is happening:
OneUI 8.5 Thermal Bug: The update has introduced a bug where the phone inaccurately detects high temperatures (even at your safe **32.0ยฐC**), causing the power management system to "throttle" the speed to prevent damage.
Knox Matrix Conflict: Reports indicate that the new Knox security features in this version are causing high background CPU usage, which generates internal heat and blocks "Super Fast Charging" protocols. * **Handshake Failure:** The "Protocol: Charging" status in your app (instead of "PD" or "SFC 2.0") suggests the phone is failing to communicate with your wall charger to request higher wattage.
Steps to fix it: 1. **Wipe Cache Partition:** This is the most effective fix for post-update bugs. * Turn off your phone. Connect it to a computer via USB-C. * Hold **Volume Up + Power** until the recovery menu appears. * Select **Wipe Cache Partition** (using volume keys to navigate, power to select), then **Reboot**. 2. **Toggle Fast Charging:** Go to **Settings > Battery > Charging settings**. Toggle "Fast Charging" and "Super Fast Charging" **OFF and then ON** again to reset the software toggle. 3. **Check "Battery Protection":** OneUI 8.5 has more aggressive protection settings. Ensure it isn't set to a mode that limits charging speed at low percentages. 4. **Cooling Down:** Even though your battery is at 32ยฐC, the processor might be hotter. Try charging with the **case off** or while the phone is powered down completely to see if the wattage jumps back up.
If these don't work, you may need to wait for a hotfix update from Samsung, as this has been a known issue since the April/May 2026 rollout.
