I recently upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S26 from a S21. I don't see the Samsung Videos app anywhere. Has it been removed from the Samsung Store?

I read that they are migrating their custom Apps to Google's Apps. I hope they don't remove their eMail, Music, Photos, Videos. or My Files Apps. I really liked the Samsung Apps better, because they have a simpler, easy to use Interface without Ads.

Samsung is not discontinuing any app other than Samsung Messages. Some users in this community are spreading misinformation to that effect, but the company itself has said no such thing.

Many users are stating a fear of losing other samsung apps.

Samsung has discontinued many of its own apps. Pianodude accurately found the date Samsung Video was discontinued.

2026 Samsung message
2024 Samsung Video
2020 S Voice
2017 Samsung Milk Music
2015 Samsung ChatOn (WhatsApp equivalent)
2014 Samsung WatchOn (TV remote and TV guide)

So approximately 2-4 years something might get discontinued.

My best guess is that Bixby will be on the chopping block within 4 years. Samsung is still investing in it but Gemini is already pre-installed. Samsung might keep tinkering with bixby (like they kept tinkering with Samsung message), have both pre-loaded, slowly push newer users to Gemini like they did with Google messages. And we'll get the discontinuation notice.

I'm more concerned about the future of Samsung Gallery someday being replaced with google images.

@Canthavenicethings that would be a logical progression considering.

Bixby vision also gone. And AI vision is not the same.

The products you mention either failed to gain traction, were determined to be a poor allocation of resources, or were superceded by broad adoption of new industry standards. The same is currently happening with Samsung Messages and will almost certainly happen with other apps/services in the future.

Just like hardware, software is an ever-changing landscape. The programs and platforms we used in the 90s are different than those we used in the 2000s.

The 2000s are different than the 2010s.

The 2010s are different than the 2020s.

The 2030s are rapidly approaching and that decade will be different as well.

You can't stop progress - we are allowed (within reason) to mourn preferred platforms, but ultimately we must adapt with the industry or be left behind.

The video app is integrated into the (Samsung) Gallery app. Open the Gallery app, then click on the hamburger menu (3 stacked horizontal lines), then the "Videos" control will be right there. This has been integrated for a few year now. There has been no "migration' so to speak, of any Samsung apps to Google ones, only the discontinuation of the Samsung Messages app being ended in a few months. Samsung made Google Messages the default messaging app out of the box with the release of the S24 line.I think it was made the default going back to the S21.
