After latest update S8 stuck in perpetual rebooting

Was there malware in the update?

How can I make it stop?

TIA

Re: After latest update S8 stuck in perpetual rebooting

Have you tried wiping the cache partition of your device? It is recommended after updates to clear stored cache files.

1.    Turn off the device.
2.    Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3.    When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
4.    An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
5.    Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6.    Press Power key to select.
7.    Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8.    When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9.    Press the Power key to restart the device.

Now it's showing a blue/green screen that says:

"Security Error: This phone has been flashed with unauthorized software & is locked. Call your mobile operator for additional support. Please note that repair/return for this issue may have additional cost."

Re: After latest update S8 stuck in perpetual rebooting

I just did that sequence and now I have a new error message:

"Warning

A custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications.

If you want to download a custom OS, press the volume up key.

Otherwise, press the volume down key to cancel.

Volume down: Cancel (restart phone)"

You are in download mode.  It is used to flash firmware onto your device.  You don't need to be in this mode.  You pressed vol down, not up.  If your device is backed up.  You do "wipe data/factory reset", where you went to do wipe cache previoulsy.  It will reset your phone to factory settings and you will have to restore your data(if it is backed up to Samsung account)

Re: After latest update S8 stuck in perpetual rebooting

When in my Samsung account can I go to see if it's backed up?

I've yet to be able to find that...

The device will not turn off using the power button.

I definitely pressed volume up, not down.

The last thing I want to do is "wipe data/factory reset".

Re: After latest update S8 stuck in perpetual rebooting

1) So when user holds vol up, bixby and then presses power, then device boots into recovery menu

2) When ser holds vol down, bixby and then presses power, then device boots into download mode.

See if you can shut off the device by holding power button for 15 or more seconds

If you can somehow get into recovery mode and try wipe data/factory reset

Held power button for a minute with no response.

Why is only solution wipe data/factory reset?

There must be another way to get it out of this Stupid Update Loop!

Re: After latest update S8 stuck in perpetual rebooting

Hello @H8L8stUpdate,

I can certainly understand your frustrations regarding this. I recommend visiting a UBreakIFix repair center for a technician to perform a software reflash on your device. Just a reminder make sure you have all of your data backed up to your Samsung cloud so you won't lose any important data.
