In addition to my Samsung Galaxy S8 plus running Android 9.0, I also have a few S7 and S7 edge devices running Android 8.0.
The S7s are far more sensitive and pick up far more satellites than the S8+. Using GPS Tools indoor, an S7 can see 6 satellites while the S8+ can only see one. Running GPS Status in the background, an S7 can now see 18 satellites but the S8+ can still only see one.
For a long time I didn't realise that the S8 plus was 'deaf' until I had something to compare it with.
Clearly there is a serious deficiency in the performance of the satellite tracking hardware on the S8 series in comparison with it's S7 predecessors.
