Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device Driver Crashes Windows 10: REALLY SOLVED

JUMP TO SOLUTION

There are a lot of posts around about this irritating problem, but no amount of messing around with the device manager and drivers will solve it. There is ONE solution to this in Windows 10 and that is to go to SETTINGS - LINKED PHONES - ADD  A PHONE.  Microsoft has a specific app to add any phone to your Windows 10 system.  You must open up a Microsoft account first; a hotmail account will due.  Then just follow the instructions in  the "ADD  A PHONE' menu.  After you download the app at the provided url, you will need to log into your Microsoft Account and allow some permissions.  When done, you need to confirm in Windows you have completed the installation.  This app can be used for a large range of functions beyond those provided by the Samsung driver.  You can put a "YOUR PHONE" icon on your task bar and access it at any time.  You can then just disable the Samsung Driver, it is redundant and I haven't been able to get it to work for more than a short period of time.  Your phone will be automatically connected through this app.

I need to add one caviate to this issue, and that is Windows update only has 2015 driver version.  YOU SHOULD DOWNLOAD A DEVELOPER VERSION OF THIS DRIVER AT:  https://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/SAMSUNG-Mobile-USB-Modem-Driver-2-12-5-0-for-Windo... This is version 2.12.5.0;  5/15/2017.  THIS IS ACTUALLY A STABLE DRIVER IN A CURRENT WINDOWS 10 ENVIRONMENT.  AND YOU DON'T NEED TO  USE THE WINDOWS 10 "ADD PHONE" APP FOR THIS TO WORK.  You can charge, transfer files and Tether simultaneously and the driver will not crash.
