Screen Lock Problem on S8

JUMP TO SOLUTION

Hi there

A few days ago, my phone wasn't accepting my PIN to unlock my phone even though it has never been changed. I unlocked from the find my mobile site then changed it and it didn't work. In fact I found that the unlock setting set itself to swipe only (i.e no security). When I restarted my phone, it wouldn't accept the PIN. So I unlocked again remotely then put a password on instead. The phone does not let me change the lock screen setting to anything other than swipe only or no lock. When I restarted my phone again, it then wouldn't accept the password I had just set up.

So to recap:

- I can't lock my phone as it won't let me change the lock screen to anyhting other than swipe only or no lock

- It does lock when powered down then turned back on but it won't accept my password (which is definitely correct

Thanks for any help!

Dan

JUMP TO SOLUTION

Hey there!

Thanks for reaching out.

Have you tried testing the device in safe mode to see if there is a third-party app that may be preventing you from locking your device?

Let's try putting the device in Safe mode to determine if there are external factors that cause this symptom. This step will temporarily disable all your third-party apps, but none of your personal data will be deleted. Your customization settings (Wallpaper, Themes, et cetera) will be reset to default once you exit this mode.

Please follow the steps below:

1. Turn the device off.

2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.

3. When "SAMSUNG" appears on the screen, release the Power key.

4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.

5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.

6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.

7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

8. To exit Safe Mode, restart your device.

Let us know how your device responds after performing this step!

Hi again.

That appears to have worked. When I started safe mode and asked for my password, it still refused and I had to remotely unlock again but I have now managed to change my screen lock preference in safe mode and this has carried over to when it is running in normal mode.

Many thanks for your help!
