network disconnects repeatedly/ no service connection

My network service disconnects. Data switches off and on constantly. Hardly ever get 4g network, usually runs 3g or 1g networks. Phone is constantly giving a error to "check your network connection or you are not connected to your internet. What can I do fix my problem?
