Re: Can't disable the Bixby button after the Android Pie update

JUMP TO SOLUTION

I understand that no one seeing this has any say, but if it ever comes up, please inform anyone involved that this (my S8+) is my third and final Samsung phone.  Bixby is so annoying, despite it otherwise being my favorite phone so far, that I will not purchase another Samsung phone with this "feature"  Thank you.

There's only one problem here, SamsungAdam.  You have to accept the Bixby terms and conditions and fully set up Bixby before the options you describe actually work, thereby yielding to the app and thus to Samsung full rights to all the data on the device.

Thank you! I could not figure out why those options were not available to me and it's because I refuse to accept their terms and conditions. I was wanting to upgrade from the S9 to the S10 but if I can't get rid of a stupid button then I am either going to go with a OnePlus 7 or a Google fi

That no longer works in Pie. No matter what you do.

Please provide a solution for disabling or remapping on the S8/S9 family of phones. Until that happens, our organization is losing requests for company owned Samsung devices to Apple and Pixle. Please don't mistake corporate logic with common sense.

@usersPRkVmXqxy  this is a little bit of insider info, but I heard the Bixby button on the S10/+ will be getting a software update upon (or soon after) release that will enable Bixby to be remapped to some degree. This should translate down the line with all devices with a Bixby button. I have an S10+ currently and it can't be remapped, but I am patiently waiting. Smiley Happy

Hey,

I updated this morning. We can now remap the Bixby switch to launch an app or quick command on single press.

They need to bring back the option to fill disabled it in the next update . Bixby is awful. I would rather have an inoperable button than Bixby pop up all of the time

Mostly for me, the problem is Bixby launches when I slide my phone into my car mount. I have a whole family on Galaxy S8's and I'm on my third Galaxy phone (fourth if you include the Note 7). The next phone will be a Google Pixel Phone if this is not fixed.

Re: Can't disable the Bixby button after the Android Pie update

I had the same issue with the car mount. I had to actually cut the bracket on my Qi charging mount so that it would not press and hold the Bixby key.  For a while, as I was communting to work, the phone would occasionally shift causing the mount bracket to press and hold the Bixby key. Then, Bixby would take over my phone, disrupting my GPS navigation and Podcast app. Since I was driving, I could not fiddle with it, so often I just had to put up with the annoyance. I stress the annoyance when its already an hour long commute in bad traffic. I would actually give Bixby a try if I could just disable the Key. I wouldn’t even mind if I had a choice to single press, double press, or press and hold. However, press and hold cannot be disabled. It seems that this should be a simple fix for Samsung.
