Unable to update software.

When I try to check for software update, I get this msg.....

Unable to update software. A network or server error has occured. Please try later. This has been going on for two months. Have reset cache. Have done a hard reset two times. Each time after reset, it says software up to date, and the several days later, I get a message that a software update is available. Go to settings, hit check software update and then get the unable to update software msg over and over. Tried different wifi's. Nothing works. Even samsung hasn't been able to help. Dont have a computer to force update and nearest repair shop is over 100 miles away. Cant send phone in for repair as it is the only one I have access to. What do I do?

 

Android version 9.

Android security patch level. August 1 2019. 

Please help. Thank you.

By the screenshot you provided, it looks like an unlocked version of S9. 

 

1) So do you know if device is sim unlocked?

2) Have you tried another carrier sim?

3) I would recomment you to get try another sim such as T-Mobile(I like it better) or maybe ATT just by going into the store and asking for a test sim.  Maybe some relatives have another carrier

 

EDIT: According to the update server, with your current sim, you have the latest software: G960U1UES6CSH1

Hello there,

 

Thanks for reaching out. I can certainly understand the frustrations this has caused you.

 

Let's try putting the device in Safe mode to determine if there are external factors that cause this symptom. This step will temporarily disable all your third-party apps, but none of your personal data will be deleted. Your customization settings (Wallpaper, Themes, etc) will be reset to default once you exit this mode.

 

Please follow the steps below:

 

1. Turn the device off.

2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.

3. When "SAMSUNG" appears on the screen, release the Power key.

4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.

5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.

6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.

7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

8. To exit Safe Mode, restart your device.

 

Let us know how your device responds after performing this step!

Same thing. I restarted in safe mode and tried to update software. Same error message. Now what

Go to settings>about phone>software information and take screenshot of the page, then scroll to the bottom and take another one

So you have pretty fresh software version, but might not be the latest.  

Did you change carriers recently?
