I have a new Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and a new phone, Samsung Galaxy A35. Everything is working great except when I say to the watch or phone "send a text message" it launches Samsung Messages but I'm using Google Messages on my watch and phone.  If I tap the icon for Google Messages on the watch I am able to type a message on that teeny tiny screen and send it. Also, I am able to use Google Assistant to create and send a text message on the phone.  I haven't installed Google Assistant on the watch yet.  Today I did a reset on the watch and started from scratch. That did not fix the problem.  Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you.

To my knowledge, both Samsung Messages Google Messages are  pre-installed on the Watches.  However, if your watch came with OneUI6.0 already installed, it may not have.  My Watch 7 came with OneUI5.0 and later updated to 6.0, so both Samsung Messages and Google Messages were pre-installed on it (or they could have just transferred over from my backup, I'm not sure). Samsung Messages cannot be uninstalled from the watch by the user, but Samsung can remove it in an update.

Bixby works with Samsung apps, Google assistant works with Google apps. Theoretically, either assistant should work with all apps. You may have to specify to Bixby to open Google Messages and dictate your message. I don't know for sure, because I don't use either assistant. Also, whichever messaging app you use, you will see your messages in both apps, so it really doesn't make a difference which one you send your message with. In either app, you can tap the mic and dictate your message, therefore bypassing the tiny keyboard.

OK, I installed Google Assistant on the Watch.  I said "Hey Google, send a text to "insert name."  It launched Samsung Messages which is no longer my default messaging app. I don't even see it as an option on the Watch. I only see Google Messages installed. I guess it's not going to work on the Watch.  I tried using Google Assistant to send a text on the phone and that worked fine. Thank you for that information.  I read somewhere that I need to install Google's Wear OS on the phone and watch for all this to work. I installed it but when on the phone, it wants to "connect your watch" but it errors out when it tries to sync phone and watch.  I think I give up. I was up until 2am last night messing around with all this.

I don't use Samsung Messages. Google is my messaging app. I do not use either of the assistants. Both Google messages and Samsung messages are installed on my watch. I have disallowed notifications from Samsung messages on my watch, so when I get a text, I just respond to it. I don't pay attention to which messaging app pops open, because it really does not matter (especially on the watch). Both apps are just shells and contain the same messages. When I initiate a message from my watch, I open Google. I usually tap the keyboard mic (I use gboard for watch) and dictate my text rather than struggle with the tiny keyboard. As I said before, you may have to say, "open Google messages, send text". Having no experience with either assistant, I do not know for sure.

FYI, you cannot install WearOS on the phone, it's only for the watch.

Thank you for responding.  I have decided I don't need to talk to the watch to send messages.  I can use my phone if I need to send a message that badly.  I'm just curious as to why my watch doesn't have Samsung Messages on it. I wonder if it's because I installed Google Messages. Maybe it uninstalled Samsung Messages automatically.  Either way, Samsung Messages is going away someday and they are pushing us to Google Messages so I caved in and switched this week.  I do love my new watch and phone though.
