I wouldn't say it's a waste of money. I would assume the issue will get fixed at some point. It's just a matter of when.
There a plenty of people in this thread assuming that Samsung is cutting support for non-Samsung phones. If that were the case then we would have heard something about that. Also, why would Samsung limit their market like that? I'm not going to buy a Samsung phone just so I can get their watch. I'll buy the phone that I want and a watch that will work with it.
