But even though I can access the watch settings through the Wearable app, which tells me the phone is connected to the watch, the watch never got the memo, because it's stuck on "Check your phone to complete setup."

Phone: Sonim XP3Plus

OS: Android 11 (Build# 3P.2.0-01-11.0.0-19.38.00)

Apps were sideloaded via APKPure and up-to-date:

  • Watch Active2 Plugin
  • Galaxy Wearable Samsung Gear
  • Samsung Accessory Service
  • Samsung Health

Any help would be appreciated, preferably not involving any more factory resets.

Check your phone specs.

”Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch3, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active2: Phones with Android 6.0 and RAM 1.5 GB or higher are supported.”

Your phone runs AOSP based on Android 11 Go edition. I don't think it will work with your watch, but I could be wrong.

So it's the operating system that's preventing a proper bluetooth pairing? I mean, the apps are working. The Wearable app truly believes it's connected to the watch. It even allowed me to install watchfaces and Galaxy apps from the Galaxy store onto the watch.
