Duplicate Notifications from Google Messages on Galaxy watch

For the past few months, I've been getting duplicate Google Message notifications. For example, I'll receive Message #1 and get a normal notification. Then when I receive Message #2, I'll get another notification for Message #1 and a subsequent notification for Message #2. This gets especially annoying whenever I have multiple unread messages (for example, the watch will vibrate five times in a row, if I have five unread messages).

Sometimes these notifications come through even when I'm on Goodnight Mode, meaning my watch will vibrate three or four times at 2:00 am when I'm asleep.

I have found a few posts online reporting the same problem, but I haven't seen any solutions or explanation by Samsung. This has made wearing my watch a huge annoyance and has been extremely frustrating. I've waited for updates to fix the problem, but it still persists.

Thank you for reaching out. I can certainly understand your frustration with the notification repeating displaying on your watch and I would be happy to look into this further for you.

1. Clear the cache on your Galaxy wearables and your Google messages app. Clearing App Cache removes all the temporary stored files the application uses when you open it next time. Give these steps a try: Go to settings > apps > locate both apps individually. Then tap on each app > tap on force stop > tap on storage and clear the cache.

2. I would recommend wiping the cache partition on your phone. The system cache partition stores temporary system data. It's supposed to allow the system to access apps more quickly and efficiently, but sometimes things get cluttered and outdated, so a periodic cache clearing can help make the system run more smoothly.

3. I would recommend toggling off the notifications in the Galaxy wearables app for Google messages and turning them back to on see if it will reset the notification out of the app cache.

If you have tried all the troubleshooting steps, provided, the next step would be a factory reset of your watch. All of your personal data will be removed and the watch will restore back to its default settings, so you won't have to worry about personal info still being on it. You can reset your watch using the Settings or Reboot mode on the watch, or with the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone. Give this link a try for steps to factory reset your watch: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00084702/

If you are still receiving duplicate notifications we recommend sending an error report. https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-send-an-error-report/

A final option would be to ship the watch to have the software re-flashed.

For service, you can use the following link to find a list of service centers in the U.S. that can do the repair: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/location or by contacting customer support at 1-800-726-7864.

Thanks for the reply. I already tried a factory reset and it didn't help. But I'll try the other troubleshooting steps that you provided, and I'll let you know if any of them work.

Thank you for that information. Just to clarify are you using a Bluetooth or LTE watch?
