I got the Tizen 5.5 update today here in the US, and along with it the long awaited ECG app (Samsung Health Monitor). Unfortunately, ECG won't work for me. Nothing happens when I put my finger on the back button. I have ensured that the back of the watch is clean, and that the band is nice and snug, but it still won't work. I looked around Reddit and found that a few other people having the same problem as me.

I did some more research and came across an XDA discussion stating that the ECG sensor on some Active2 watches may be damaged due to the long inactivity period.

I talked to Samsung Support on Twitter and they agreed that this is a hardware issue, and that a replacement of components (the back button and maybe the entire sensor) will be needed.

How does Samsung plan to address this? The hardware damage is clearly not our (the users') fault. Had they delivered on their Active2 ECG promise on time, we wouldn't be facing this issue.

I had the same issues where it wouldn't even start a ECG reading no matter what I did. Got my RMA started and shipping label after talking to support this morning. Hoping they will be able to fix it.

The heart rate monitoring for the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is a joke.  My heart rate is rotinuely way off - my heart rate is higher during a simple walk than it is when I go for a run.  There are times when I am sitting my heart rate when be 30 bpm higher than it is when I am running.  Not to mention compared to my Fitbit Versa and this also means my aggregrate calories burned for the day is far less on the Active 2 than it was with my Versa.  When is ECG going to be activated because I am not sure I can count on anything it shows.

I completely agree. Bought this watch because all the reviews raved the problems were fixed. Far from it. There is no easy way to have the heart rate show continuously throughout a workout. It continously goes back to a time watch face after a few seconds or a minute. And the lag... OMG. I was pumping away on a spinning bike and the watch said I was only 84 bpm. Looked further and it hadn't been updated in over 7 minutes!! SEriously!!!!. I had it set to continuous monitoring but the watch was FROZEN.  Even when not working out, I would swipe to the side several times before it reacted. Constant freezing. Took watch back for refund. May have to join Apple universe as this totally blows.

Thanks for this post and generating the replies. I have  a v1 Watch Active and have wondered if the 2 can actually do heart rate monitoring properly. Seems like they are still struggling. It's a shame, as I really like the smaller form factor, but it appears I'll have to get a Garmin. Worst case at least it can sync with a chest band during the workout. It's frankly pretty hilarious that Samsung is talking about BP monitoring (in watch 1) and then virtual EKG (in watch 2) but they can't even do basic HRM reliably.

I have had two Polar Fit watches so I know what my heart rate ususally is during certain workouts and this watch shows me doing plank rows and my heart rate is going down which I know is false! I hope they can resolve the issue or provide a heart rate monitor band to go with this watch for more accurate heart rate measuring.

Same here.  When I manually measure my heart rate with the Active 2, it comes pretty close to being accurate.  But continuous monitoring nearly always counts 20-30 bpm too high almost all the time *except* when I'm working out.  The problem is even worse when I'm in a car or an airplane.

Yes I am afraid the sensor on my watch is really inaccurate as well.

Three months old, it has been back to the service center twice. I have used an oximeter, my s10 note and a blood pressure cuff.

Samsung Australia are terrible they use contracted service centers. Have always loved Samsung products till I got this device. I have tried different wrists , different positions, have done resets on it and had my brother inlaw wear it with the same wild fluctuations, yet Samsung keep sending it back to me because a technician has tested it on a bench , not comparing it to other devices.

It is on its way back to me again from Sydney, I am annoyed as this experience has really put me off Samsung after many years,
