My watch is set to double press button to launch google assistant.  It has now started to "tap the mic and speak" request.  It used to go straight to listening.

I've uninstalled, and made sure both devices are logged in as same account.

Help!

That may have been a deliberate addition to prevent accidental activation of assistant. Some people double tap by accident.

....STILL waiting....This was one of the capabilities that prompted a number of people in my circle to go w/ the Galaxy Watch. Very unfortunate.

Does the same behavior manifest when you go directly to the assistant from the apps panel?  The behavior should be the same no matter how you activate it.  If it now has tap to speak instead of "listening", then this was a change made by Google and you should be complaining to them, as it is their app, programmed by them and not Samsung.

Launching assistant as an app from watch face goes straight to listening mode

Perhaps, then the easiest thing would be to arrange the app screen so that the assistant is at the top and easily accessible so you can activate it easily. I don't use the assistant, but I kind of understood it to be that once you turn it on, it's always listening, like Alexa, and you needn't do anything else but use the wake word.

The active listening is a separate setting, but enabled uses too much battery for daily use.

I just want to be able to use a button in some fashion to trigger listening mode.  A single click on the app, which is then under a swipe command first, triggers listening mode without the need to activate the mic with a 2nd screen tap.  For years, I was able to double tap a button and ask a question.  Was so handy.  Now the extra step just makes it less inviting and used less frequently.

I found at least one customizable watch face, "Ultra Info Board", where you can add the Google assistant as a complication.  I do not know if activating it from the complication will have the same effect as activating it directly from the app screen, but it should. You can try. I did not go through all the customizable faces but, of the ones I did go through, it seems the option is available on faces with more than 4 complications. There are a couple of analog faces that offer it as complication, as well.  You will have to first find a face you like and then see which complications are offered. Having it as a complication at least eliminates the swipe up and tap.
