Samsung, Raise to Wake & AOD, the Winner Is...

3 days ago I read an article on a guy who switched his Samsung watch from Raise to Wake to AOD, to discover contrary to Samsung claims that there is barely any difference in battery consumption.

I said let's try. Yes, Yes & more Yes. Raise to Wake is a very annoying option that fails to work half the time. AOD on the other hand -and just like what that guy said- gives life to your watch and you cal always see the Time when you need it.

Battery drainage was nearly equal if not even better. So if you are frustrated like me by the barely working RtW function switch to AOD.

I find that on my GW7, raise to wake works perfectly but the battery consumption is greater. I am barely able to make it through the day with raise to wake turned on.

I always keep it on AOD with raise to wake OFF and make it through each day comfortably.

@IyadJabbour I have tried many variations of settings. I find that using AOD and raise to wake have negligible impact to battery life. I wonder if choice of watch face can cause a difference. I use the Ultra info board which is heavy on data but still gives me a "reasonable" battery life.

@IyadJabbour I have the GW 8 and GW Ultra (24) and they both burn battery at about 2%/hour regardless of settings.

Here is a screenshot of the Ultr Info board watchface. Screenshot_20260430_105944_One UI Watch Home.png

Agreed. I've noticed better battery life with AOD on, Raise off. You just need to get a face that doesn't have a bunch of fluff on AOD.

@RedOregon In the past, I have tried very basic watch faces and there has been no difference in battery life.

I use heritage classic which has so much info including moon phase and AOD and Raise up are about the same. Maybe AOD is even better.

I have never used AOD since I am concerned about burn in. If you turn off raise to wake and turn on AOD, how do you view the full watch face? Do you have to press a button? If so, wouldn't that be more inconvenient than raise to wake?

I get 2+ days of battery life with AOD OFF and raise to wake ON my Watch 6 Classic, and raise to wake works fine almost all the time.
