Updates should be scheduled

Hi,

Is there a way to stop the forced Android updates?

This morning when I woke up, I saw a notification saying there's an update for my phone.  I said to remind me later because I'll be using my phone later, and didn't want it to break anything while I'm out.  A few hours later, after being asked a few times to update, it just finally forced the update, not giving me an option to delay it or choose a time.  This happened in the middle of the afternoon while I was using my phone.

The time before that, I was traveling overseas, and it forced me to do an update, again, in the middle of the day, where I was connected to a hotspot the entire time because I didn't have sim card.

I don't mind doing updates while I'm at home while I'm asleep, but if it's the middle of the day, or if I'm traveling abroad, especially while I'm using it as my navigation, that's extremely bad.

Is there a way to set a time for the OS updates or anything like that?

Apparently, just now, when I gone into Software update and did a check for updates, it's now downloading a 945.20MB.  It is very bad to have a forced update happen when I'm in the middle of using it, like for navigation.

I have the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, Model SM-F711U

Try this.

Settings > Software update > Auto-download over Wi-Fi > set to off.

Note that once an update has been downloaded you can only delay installing it for a certain period of time, at which point it will automatically be installed.

Depending on your carrier I think it's possible your phone could still check for updates over cellular—I'm not sure...

If you disable automatic download of updates, remember to manually go download and install updates every month or so. Security updates are important.

Yes, that's exactly what I did and it worked well for me, now I do it at night when I'm going to bed. Thanks for the information.
You didn't just help this person but me as well.
Thanks again

I don't have that option.  See attached image

Maybe it's on the 3 Dots menu.

Just has "Device Help".

I don't get why mine is so different.  It's on AT&T, should be the AT&T variant since I got it through AT&T, but can't believe that this part would be that different.

I could be wrong. My phone is actually a different model Galaxy and is still running Android 12/OneUI 4.1. Maybe someone else knows.

I would also believe if a carrier had an update policy. Carriers might like phones on their network updated so that they are easier to support (everyone's Z Flip3 behaves the same).

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping to find out.  I do find it stupid that it forces an update without giving an option for what time, especially for a device that people generally use all day....

One thing I've done that I think helps is, when you get an update notification, don't hit "remind me later", because I think it automatically updates after you do that 3 times these days. Instead, press Home or Recents, or lock your phone to escape the notification. It will remind you later anyway, and eventually force an update, but I think not based on how many times you do that. Then, go ahead and install the update as soon as convenient to prevent the issues you mentioned.

One other thing that comes to mind is configuring Wi-Fi networks as metered. I'm quite sure it will not automatically download updates over metered Wi-Fi networks. Beware that app updates might stop coming through automatically too, though. In Play Store I suspect apps will auto-update if you have Play Store > user icon > Settings > App Download Preference > Over any network ON, plus Auto-Update apps > Over any network ON. (That will update over mobile data, too, though.)

I'll give the Home or Recent button a try next time.  I think I hit the "remind me later" button like 3 times today before it just forced the update.

Thanks
