Gear S3 Classic Home button not responding

Yesterday my watch started responding very slowly, and then not at all.  The top button still brings up the PIN for samsung pay(which I never set up and don't use anyway), but no other screens would come up, and the home button wasn't responding at all.  I could not power down because I couldn't get to it in the UI and it wasn't responding to me holding down home(the bottom button) for up to a minute.  It was still connecting with my phone and sending data such as steps and sleep data, but I couldn't use it as a watch any more.  I ran the battery all the way down as a method to reboot it.  When it went off, I put it on the charger and it registgered it was charging, the %charged screen would appear, and it charged all the way back up.  When it got to 100% I tried to turn it back on, but it still doesn't respond to the home button.  Now I cannot turn it on at all.

Hey @userqitAUaht7b

Sorry, you're having this issue try hard reset to solve the issue.

Master reset with hardware keys

A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, and contacts. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card.

If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys.

  1. Back up data on the internal memory.
  2. Turn the Gear S3 off.
  3. Press and hold the Power key until REBOOTING displays at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Press the Power key repeatedly until the Select REBOOT MODE screen displays.
  5. Press the Power key to highlight ' Recovery'.
  6. Press and hold the Home key to select.
  7. Keep holding the Power key until the Gear S3 begins rebooting.

Please accept as a solution if this helps you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As mentioned in original post, the watch is not responding to the power key at all.  I held it down for over a minute on several occasions.

Useless advice! I wasted a whole morning doing this, and then reloading all the apps that don't come back via Samsung Backup (!).

The first problem with your suggestion is that THE POWER BUTTON (by itself) DOESN'T DO *ANYTHING*! One cannot reboot the watch (save killing the battery -and then you can't turn ut back on BECAUSE THE HOME BUTTON IS DEAD.

What I've discovered is that all the Home Button functions (including Reboot) work IF YOU TAP (or hold) BOTH BUTTONS TOGETHER. -Sorry for the yelling, but maybe I got your attention. Others have found that this approach works, and expert moderators have been trained to simply tell people to reset to factory or go to Recovery, as you do here. No one who has reported this problem has reported that it fixed it. No one. All over the boards this "no Home" button is being reported, and is either a bad software glitch, or, as someone reported, perhaps the Back Button is completing a necessary ground connection that Home no longer does. After all, that key gets used a lot! That could well be it, as my Home Button became intermittent for weeks, before it ceased to function. But it got cranky after the previous software update, as well.

Please TRY using the two-button workaround until you have to send it back to Samsung for a battery replacement AND a button fix. I really hope this workaround makes your S3 function again.

i would normally suggest you try a manual reboot by pressing and holding the power button, i suggest you still give it a try for at least 20 to 30 seconds. if that doesnt work it might just be the power botton that isnt working.

It might be as simple as  a button repair.

I'll contact a @samsungmoderator to get you further assistance with this alright?

Give this a try, press and hold the back button and the power button at the same time for about 20-30 seconds, does that allow you to turn your device on?

That did it!  It came back on and it looks like the issue is the home button.  Everything else is working as expected now, but the home button(bottom button) still does nothing.  Thank you!  I'll see about getting the home button fixed.
