Samsung SmartTV - LN40D630M3FXZA will not connect to internet

JUMP TO SOLUTION

SmartTV manufactured 11/2011.  Image looks great once properly set up.

Wireless Roku sees both 2.4 and 5.0 bands for WiFi from ISP router/hub.

HDMI out from Roku to TV works just fine.

HDMI out from Denon DVD player to TV works just fine.

New Ethernet cable connects from Internet router/hub provided by ISP to LAN input on TV.

Network Connect option set to Wired.  (Only choice.  Wireless requires external adapter.)

Network Setup set to Auto for IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway.

Set to Auto for DNS Server.

No joy.

Samsung says let it "think" for 2 minutes.

Page times out after 30-40 seconds.  Every time.

Changed Setup from Auto to Manual on both.

Logged in to Router/Hub.

Found and entered "Public iPv4" Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS Server Address.

No joy.

On lengthy calls with Samsung, twice.  Spectrum, twice.

No joy.

Samsung says ISP must provide data.  ISP says Samsung must Reset TV.

-or- multiple variations of the same theme.

So far, TV not very smart.

Did this specific model EVER connect to the Internet?

IF YES, what's the secret?

The ethernet should connect, unless the card has failed, which appears to be your problem here. Even if you could connect, there will not be very many downloadable apps, not Roku or Netflix, etc. The browser will not be upgradeable, either, as almost everything has stopped supporting devices built around a Flash platform.

Awesome that its still going after 9 years. Sounds like Samsung has moved past updating supporting that model as far as firmware for internet usage. We had to move our 7 year tv to bedroom and buy new Samsung 50 inch for living area. The older model wouldn't support Disney+ and we wanted Samsung TV plus.

Thanks for your comment.  Actually, most good "screens" work fine, last a long time.

I am sorry to hear about this. Does the television not connect to the router, or does it connect and provide no internet access?

SamsungLou,

Thank you for reaching out.  It will not connect to the router.

Under the heading, "Ain't Nothing Simple" is the following recap:

- the TV is unresponsive when attempting to populate IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS Server inormation in AUTO mode.

- the ISP will not provide an IP address, "Because it is priviliged information."

- logging in to the Sagemcom Router/Hub, I found a list of what are labeled "Public" IP Address, Subnet Mask, and such.

- entering that data in MANUAL mode gets no response.

- when attempting Software Update, the TV reports no Network connection.

My first, and most important, questions:

1. Should Ethernet connection to Network funciton on this set manufactured in Nov 2011?

2. Once it connects, does Samsung still support downloading a browser and/or other apps to take advantage of things like a Roku subscription?

IF YES, then I'd like to pursue this matter to a successful conclusion.

Thanks,

not always grumpy

but old

Thanks.  Got it.  Is there a way to share this information agents who provide  "technical support" via telephone?  It appears I've spent literally hours chasing a solution that is no longer viable.
