TV won't display from computer

New UN50NU7100 was bought to replace UN46ES6150 which still works. When I try to send from a MS Surface Pro to any of the HDMI ports, as I have regularly done to the old tv, the new tv finds the HDMI cable connected to the correct port but reports "no signal", even though the computer is up and running. The computer senses a display it calls "SAMSUNG". My question is: are there any extra steps needed to make the 2018 TV act like the 2012 TV and display the computer's screen. Are the refresh rates off?

I found the answer: a 4K UHD tv won't display from my Surface Pro - HDMI mis-match. There are converters which cost about the same as the TV! Surprising "feature".
