HW-Q90R Soundbar Rear Speakers Low Volume

I have the HW-Q90R Soundbar connected to my LG SM8600 TV and though the Sub woofer and Soundbar pump out the sound the rear speakers are outputting at very low volume - is there any way to equalise the speakers, to lift the volume of the rear speakers?  Thanks.

Re: HW-Q90R Soundbar Rear Speakers Low Volume

Hey, try the following:

1) Make sure the TV has the latest software version

2) Try a different HDMI cable

If you still experiencing a problem I recommend reaching out to LG to make sure the TV is compatible with the soundbar.

Re: HW-Q90R Soundbar Rear Speakers Low Volume

I have the exact same tv and the same soundbar...and the same issue! Latest firmware, all works fine just far too quiet and impossible to turn up the volume on the rear speakers.

Re: HW-Q90R Soundbar Rear Speakers Low Volume

I just bought mine yesterday! I wish I'd read this thread. Been facing the same issue, really disappointing. All the rear speakers do is occupy space, no sound whatsoever..

Re: HW-Q90R Soundbar Rear Speakers Low Volume

    1. Update your firmware using SmartThings.

Follow on screen directions until it says the update is complete.

      1. Make sure your soundbar is connected to the wi-fi network using SmartThings.
      2. Unplug the soundbar, the subwoofer, and the rear speakers for 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
      3. Open the SmartThings app on your phone and select the HW-Q90R soundbar to access its control menu.
      4. Tap the 3 vertical dots in the top right corner of the screen.
      5. Navigate to Information > Firmware Update > Update Now.
    2. Check that you have the latest version.

After performing the update, confirm that you have installed the version which corrects this issue. To check the versions on your soundbar:

The display will cycle through the versions of each piece in this order:

      ON M 0126.0 B 1008.0 H 0051.0 FD 0040.0 W 0241.0 S 0136.0 RR 0136.0 RL 0136.0

      1. Turn the soundbar off.
      2. Press and hold Sound Control on the remote for 5 seconds until the versions begin to display on the soundbar's display.
      • First, if your M, B, or W numbers are lower than what's listed here, even after updating by SmartThings in step 1, then skip to step 3.
      • If those numbers are fine, then check if one of your S, RR, or RL numbers is lower than 0136.0. If so, skip to step 4.
      • If all of your numbers are equal to or higher than what is listed here, your issue is resolved.
    3. Update the soundbar firmware by USB.

If you've reached this step, it is because your soundbar did not successfully update via SmartThings. To update by USB instead, perform these steps:

After performing the update, repeat step 2 and check that the latest version is installed.

      1. Download the latest firmware.
      2. Extract the file to a USB thumb drive, but do not place it in a folder on your USB drive.
      3. Unplug the soundbar, the subwoofer, and the rear speakers for 30 seconds, then plug them back in.
      4. Turn the soundbar on, and insert the USB drive into the Service port. The firmware update starts automatically.
      5. The display on the soundbar will cycle UPDATE > BYE > ON 3 times. This takes about 10 minutes.
      6. After the 3 cycles, the soundbar will restart and the last source used will display for about 20 seconds before turning off.
    4. Update the rear speakers and subwoofer.

If you've reached this step, it is because your soundbar is updated, but the update is not yet applied to your rear speakers and subwoofer. To update them:

After performing the update, repeat step 2 and check that the latest version is installed.

      1. Turn the soundbar on, and wait until there is any text on the display, then press and hold the DOWN button on the remote for about 6 seconds until the display shows UPDATE.
      2. The display on the soundbar will cycle UPDATE > BYE > ON. This takes about 5 minutes.
      3. After the update, the soundbar will restart and the last source used will display for about 20 seconds before turning off.
      4. After performing the update, repeat step 2 and check that the latest version is installed.

If this does not solve the issue then this will require service, you do have a few options depending on how new the sound bar is, if it was recently purchased then you can contact the retailer to see about an exchange depending on the retailers return policy, if the sound bar is out of warranty then you can contact our depot center at 1-310-669-4334 and send it in for an out of warranty repair, and if the sound bar is in warranty you can send me or any of the other moderators a private message with your full model and serial number so that we may set that up for you.

Re: HW-Q90R Soundbar Rear Speakers Low Volume

I've done all this. The advice you're posting is help desk level 1. Thanks, but I'm looking for a solution to the fact they are so quiet, not that they don't work at all. I would like to know if this very low output and their inability to split an input decently is typical. My previous hard wired 5.1 system easily moved music and sounds to all speakers if the source wasn't a Dolby digital surround sound source. The rears on the Q90r just don't seem capable of that and it's pretty disappointing.
