Guys, rear audio works well with 4k movies. The audio from TV channels or music apps are mostly stereo (2.1) . For the samsung HW-N950 rear speakers to work effectively, try playing 4k Ultra HD movies like TRIPLE FRONTIER on Netflix starting from 3:00 mins to witness the rear speakers in action. Absolute bliss!
Yes! I finally figured out the issue with the rear speakers low volume on the SWA-9000S. The speakers themselves are fine, the issue is the terrible design on the red/black wires that go into the speaker. Firstly, the cords are too thin and have a bad contact with the speaker so there is no fixing this; however, there are some things you can try out.
1) pull the red/black cord as far out as possible from the speaker where it is barely making contact but just enough where it clips. If these wires are in too deep, either the plastic will prevent contact (no volume) or the volume will be too low.
2) bump up the "Rear Level" to +6 and knock down all the other configurations to below 0.
Samsung needs to recognize this terrible design in the cord and make a more robust red/black wired available.
Hi Ive figured out why the rear speakers are low. This has worked for me 100%
Connect a HDMI cable from the soundbar to the TV using the ARC labeld HDMI ports on the soundbar & TV.
Dont connect devices into your TV. Connect your devices directly into the soundbar (sky/virgin/set top box) - this will pump out audio from the rears better than the static most of you guys are hearing.
I dont think this model uses EARC which resolves this issue. Having devices plugged into the TV and not the Bar directly compresses the audio.
Some of the other advice on here is correct i.e settings on devices etc.
The only drawback ive found from this is you have to use the soundbar remote to select the HDMI source of the soundabr for what you are watching everytime you turn the TV on, which is an extra step and can be annoying in comparison to using ARC which you just turn the TV on and the bar kicks in...
Let me know how if this helps
I purchased the N950 six months ago and have been suffering the exact same issues, plus the sound quality at the rear is so bad, it constantly has the cracking sound. I have been waiting for a firmware update but sees nothing since the 1007 version. Even if EARC was available, if the TV doesn't support EARC, would it help at all? Anyway, if no solution to the rear speaker, I will call local Samsung to see if they can replace my unit with a working one. Still not sure if it's just my unit, or all N950 has the same problem
appreciate if the moderator can shed some light
I'm sorry to hear that, have you had a chance to try the troubleshooting steps in the link below?
Have you checked the connections on the sound bar to make sure everything was plugged in completely? And how long has this occur?
Yes I have, although the troubleshooting steps are for the subwoofer, my problems related to the rear speakersthis has been happening since the 1st day I received the speakers for my home 6 months ago. I thought it was my setup or just a software update needed, but it isn't after going through the steps, no new software has been released by Samsung
i have been through all recommended solutions in the Samsung community postings, there seems to be no solution and most users ended up returning the product. I am wondering there is a fundamental design flaw in the hardware of the N950 speakers, or should I keep waiting for a software update to fix the rear speaker issues?
If the troubleshooting steps did not help then the next step would be either service or you can try to go back to your place of purchase for an exchange which one would you prefer to do? If you would like to get set up for service you can send me a private message with your full model and serial number.
