The auto-open feature on my 2 year old Samsung dishwasher, model DW80K5050US, has suddenly stopped working. We have not changed anything about the way we wash our dishes... It has simply stopped auto-opening. Hoping for a self-service solution, please!
First, even though you haven’t changed anything you may want to check to see if the auto-release function has been deactivated. Check your manual for instructions on how to turn the feature on and off and ensure it is on. If you don’t have a manual you can google it. Next, several users in other posts have indicated that spraying a small amount of white lithium grease on the latch release mechanism on the dishwasher tub side (not the door side) resolved this for them. Also spraying a small amount around the two small gray auto-release tabs several inches to the left and right of the dishwasher tub latch release mechanism also worked. They said you may have to open and close the door several times to get the lubricant distribted in the gray tab mechanism that pops the door open. They say do not use WD40 as it causes problems. Something about white lithium grease that works best. And the grease will have to be re-applied from time to time when the auto-release mechanism stops working again. Some say they have to re-apply after 15-20 wash cycles, others say it make take dozens of wash cycles before they have to re-apply the grease. Others have said when they use the Sanitize option that the door won’t open and that turning it off resolves the issue.
