Basic forced defrost question

Greetings,

Our Samsung refrigerator has developed the ice buildup-fan buzz problem, and I want to do a forced defrost while we ponder our next step. In all the discussions of how to do this, I can't seem to find a basic piece of information: do you leave the doors open or closed during the process? This seems like it would make a huge difference, but I can see it going either way. Thanks for any information.

The doors will need to be closed for the defrost cycle to run.
