Fridge Model RF28R6301SR Whirring Noise

Fridge started making a loud whirring noise, seeming coming from the ice maker area. Sounds like a high speed, motor or compressor sound.

Noise stops when opening the doors

I defrosted and turned down water pressure with no success.

Please assist.

Re: Fridge Model RF28R6301SR Whirring Noise

Isolate if the noise is coming from the outside especially behind the fridge or from the ice maker. Ice can sometimes dislodge a directional flap that can be easily snap back in place.

An outside cooling fan can be obstructed by debris that flutters noisily.

Is the temperature, fridge humidity and ice making features functioning normally?

Re: Fridge Model RF28R6301SR Whirring Noise

Noise sounds to be internal closest to the left side of the fridge towards the top. I suspect it may be the fan on the ice maker auger motor assembly.

Re: Fridge Model RF28R6301SR Whirring Noise

I check the auger fan assembly. Fan is free spinning with no interference. I also tested the ice maker and dissembled it to check the 12v motor and condition of the gearing. There appears to be no wear. It tested quietly.

The fact the noise goes away when I open the doors has me thinking it could be narrowed down further. Any ideas?
