Re: Samsung Refrigerator RF28HFEDTSR/AA Ice Maker Freezes

JUMP TO SOLUTION

I am having the same ice maker issue as everyone else. I have been dealing with this since I bought the refrigerator at Home Depot for $2600. It is driving me crazy--I am at my wits end!!

I am a real estate broker, and I used to have a really good opinion of Samsung appliances, but now, whenever I show homes with them in it, I think of my ice maker and all the problems it has caused. If I don't get this fixed soon, I will not recommend them to any of my clients ever again!!

How do I get Samsung to come out and fix this obvious design flaw??? Thank you!

Re: Ice Maker Freezing Up

JUMP TO SOLUTION

If you're having trouble with your ice maker not working, whether it's freezing over or not making ice at all take a look at the steps provided below it might help Smiley Happy....

Can you verify that the ICE off light is not turned on? When ice only drops from the ice maker if the test switch/button on the ice maker is pressed, verify that the Ice Off icon is not illuminated on the display panel. When the Ice Off icon is illuminated, the ice maker is turned off. However, when pressing the test button, the ice maker will continue to harvest any ice that is in its ice tray.

Samsung recommends that you change your water filter every 6 months. If your water filter has not been changed in the last 6 months feel free to purchase one on Samsung.com or samsungparts.com

Replace the water filter in your Samsung refrigerator:

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00060149/

Check the dispenser's water pressure.

  • Dispense water into a measuring cup for 10 seconds. You should get at least 6 ounces (3/4 cup) or more.
  • If you get less than 3/4 cup, your water pressure is too low. A potential cause might be a clogged water filter, so remove your water filter and try again.

If your ice maker is frozen over we recommend defrosting the unit by unplugging it or turning it off at the breaker and then performing the reset step below.

Reset the ice maker.

  • There is a test button on the ice maker. (Most models will require you to remove the ice bucket to view the ice maker.) You can typically find an illustration of the location of the test button in your user manual. Once you find this button:
    • Press and hold the test button until you hear a chime (which may take up to 10 seconds).
    • The test takes about 6 minutes. During the test cycle, you will hear ice drop into the bucket and the water valve energize to fill the ice maker.
    • At the end of the test, another chime will be heard.

Note: If the ice maker does not chime when you press the button, or if it does not chime at the end of the test, unplug the refrigerator or power it down at the circuit breaker, wait 2 minutes, and power it back up. Watch the display for any error codes. Then, try the button again. If it still does not chime, visit our Support Center to request service.

Allow 24 hours after the reset for ice production to get back to normal.

  • You should see some ice production much sooner, however, it may take the full 24 hours for it to return to normal production amounts (approximately 2 trays of ice every 3 hours).
  • Be sure to dispense ice occasionally during this period. If ice piles up at one end of the bucket, the ice maker will think it is full and stop ice production. Find more information in the "Ice maker is making some ice but not enough" section.

If the above troubleshooting steps didn't help you are welcome to send us a private message with the full model code and serial number in order to see if the unit is within the warranty or if it qualifies for any possible options. @SamsungBri This doesn't fix the constant freezing over of the Icemaker. I have a model RF28HMEDBSR/AA and have had this problem for the last 9 months. I have reset and defrosted the icemaker several times with the same results. I have to repeat the steps again every few weeks to have a functioning ice maker.

Are there any other solutions since this an obvious design flaw?

Unplugging the refrigerator is not an acceptable solution to a $3000 refrigerator.

Re: Ice Maker Keeps Freezing

JUMP TO SOLUTION

There have been MANY reported issues with this refrigerator and the ice maker.  I know this has been going on for many years.  My model is from 2014 and  I am having the EXACT same issue.  After thawing, defrosting and chiseling out built up frost for many months, the ice maker is not even working.  Are there any user diagnostics that I can do to determine if the setting is just off?  I don't mind defrosting and chiseling if that's what it takes, however, now it won't make ice at all -- unbelievable.  Can anyone provide a recent update on progress with this issue?  We have to buy ice for a refrigerator that cost $2000+!  Samsung, PLEASE stand by your product here!

i have the same problem.  I used to be able to get it working with a defrost cycle or two, but this last time nothing happened after hitting the reset button.  My water is working fine, new filter in place, no frost or anything in the tray/ maker area.

A customer service person told me they have new ice makers "that will never have this problem."  But they wanted to send a tech out to me which of course is going to cost a fortune because I have had my fridge over 12 months.

Our (RF263BEAESG/AA) refrigerator is not even 2 years old and the ice maker frosts over and quits working all the time.  Research online shows these Samsung designs are terrible (putting an icemaker inside the refrigerator compartment).  Furthermore, I called Samsung and they said too bad, you just have to pay to have a repair guy to come out.  I've had other refrigerators for 15+ years that never froze up.  Absolutely, I will never buy another Samsung kitchen product, and I bought an entire kitchen package.

Any final word on the issue?  My ice maker basically freezes up/clogs immediately after I clear it out.
