I’ve had Samsung authorized repair people here 4 times and they have sealed it and added a new part and it still freezes and jams. We now have an extended warranty through Asurion. A rep from there, who seems to be knowledgeable, tells me that it is caused by air getting in the ice maker or a problem with the water. Since he represents an insurance company and is incentivize to save his company money. He says I might need a plumber to do something with the water line. He had me turn the water off and says he will call me back to see if there is still ice buildup after a few week. It’s been 8 days now and no ice buildup and he hasn’t called back. Am I getting flimflammed? I realized that ice buildup is impossible without water. This is a VERY expensive refrigerator and not being able to use many of the features we paid for is quite frustrating. I noticed several people mentioned a newer model of the ice maker and that cleared up the problem. How can I get Samsung and Asurion to authorize a replacement using the newer model?

I have a 2015 Samsung Model RF23HTEDBSR/AA. Service tech opened the ice maker up and there was a block wall of solid ice that built up preventing the ice maker from working. The tech said it's a manufacturer's design flaw.
Is there a class action open on these faulty ice makers that Samsung uses in their refridgerators because I sure would like to join? I should of stayed with LG products.
Same issue with mine. Ice clogs up and freezes into a large chuck of ice as it exits the dispenser. Stops the whole thing from working. Once I clear it out it works for about a week and does it again. Terrible!
I am also interested in knowing if there is something being done about the Samsung ice maker design fault. Apparently this is a way too common problem - ice maker frosts over and ice cubes wont come out. They should recall these ice makers so the consumers don't need to shell out hundreds of dollars to fix multiple times! We have the 4 door. I was just told by my repair man that the cost to replace is $573 and we bought this fridge in February 2017. That's ridiculous!
I purchased the Samsung RF23J9011SR counter depth frig couple years back, the ice maker never really works. I have to take it out almost every other week to clean out the frozen ice. A month ago it stopped working totally and I couldn't even pull the ice bucket out, it's stuck. Called Samsung service and they want $200 plus parts if needed because it just out of warranty. I will try defrosting the frig and see if I can get ice maker out. Otherwise, I will get a portable container from walmart to make ice. I will not spend the money as I don't believe they can probably fix it, it's either a design or manufacturing defect, they should do a recall
We have had the same problem since we purchased ours several years ago. It’s now an every other day issue. We are buying a counter top ice maker because of this. I will never buy a Samsung product. I tell everyone I know not to. $2200 down the drain.
COME ON SAMSUNG! So MANY customers have complained the Ice maker continues to freeze up. I've to to thaw the freezer with a hair dryer and then chip away the ice. Works for about three days and then we're right back to the same problem. Sometimes we can't even pull out the tray because it is so frozen over. Most of the time we don't even bother trying to use the ice maker because if we're lucky we get five pieces of ice and then look to see it clogged up again.

So, I finally got this resolved!
I called Samsung support and explained the situation noting that I am having the same issue as thousands of customers are having. My fridge is out of warranty and I have never had it serviced by anyone. The rep told me that they would give me a one-time out-of-warranty service call at no charge. Any future calls would be the standard fee.
I made the appointment and the service group came out. It was a third-party "Samsung Care" specialists group who was contracted out full time to handle all Samsung products. They are very polite and efficient. I explained the problem and the first thing he did was test the ice dispenser flap door by pouring a cup of water into it from inside the fridge. The water immediately leaked out of the ice dispenser in the front. He said that warm room air is leaking past the flap and into the ice box and that's "one of the problems." Then he pulled out the ice bucket and saw that there was a open space between the ice box and the fridge and that "warmer than freezing" air from the fridge is also coming up into that ice box and that's a "second problem." Then he saw that the model of ice maker is older than the current model and that's the "third problem." So they replaced the entire contents of the icemaker box, the dispenser flap and sealed that crack between the box and fridge. All is working now. Happy Customer.
