This from class action.org on the class action suit against Samsung re: the defective ice makers:
The lawsuit involving Samsung ice makers has been ordered to private mediation. You can read the order here. Both sides have 14 days to mutually agree upon a mediator.
Mediation is when opposing parties come together to negotiate a matter with the help of a third party – the mediator – and is a form of “alternative dispute resolution.” Mediation is often done prior to a case going to trial and can help conserve time and money for all parties involved.
What’s This All Mean for Me?
Honestly, we’re not sure yet; we cannot predict the outcome of the mediation. It’s important to note that the order was handed down by the court and was not a mutual decision made by the defendants and plaintiffs. The order does state, however, that “individuals with settlement authority” will attend the mediation “as requested.” If the matter cannot be resolved through mediation, the defendant’s motion to dismiss will be back on the table.
It’s not much of an update – but it’s all we have right now. We’ll continue to keep you informed, as we know many of you have struggled with your Samsung ice makers.
I have a similar problem. My icemaker just stopped making ice after 5 years. I've never had to defrost it before. I tried the test button and got the first chime, but not the second. Is this the same problem (frozen supply line)?
Same thing here. The refrigerator (model: RF23HCEDBWW) is only two years old and we started having trouble with the icemaker shortly after the warranty expired. The unit freezes, "ice full" sensor isn't working. It accumulates water, ice is slashy, unit is frosty inside. If before we had 2-3 months before it needed to be thawed and reset, now it's less than a week... What is Samsung going to do about it, since it appears to ne a universal, well known problem, due to faulty design
I have a model RF28HMEDBWW. For the last 6-9 months it has been getting ice jams and would stop making ice. I'd have to clear out the ice, defrost the unit and it would work fine for awhile (a week or so) then I'd have to repeat the unjamming and often the defrosting. Last week it stopped making ice all together. I tried defrosting it but no go. I'm hesitant to buy a new icemaker not knowing if it will fix the problem, plus reading all the comments, pending lawsuits, etc. makes it sound like this is a much bigger issue. There are 80 pages of complaints on this thread alone! There's no reason a $2K refrigerator should have something so simple fail after just a few years.
We have the same issue as well -- same model RF28HMEDBSR/AA- exact same ice maker issues just about 1 1/2 yrs old. Have tried numerous uncloggings, defrostings, adjusting temperatures, etc. -- about EVERY 2 weeks -- since we purchased it!!! Now it will not even reset at all and will not make any ice whatsoever!!! This is so ridiculous and as many have mentioned -- this is NOT an inexpensive refrigerator and is supposed to make large quantities of ice (which it DOES NOT DO!). I cannot believe how disappointed I am in this refrigerator simply becauseof the ice maker - otherwise I love it. SAMSUNG -- you guys really messed this one up! Acknowledge this & FIX IT (for free) to keep your reputation in order! For goodness sakes -- STAND BEHIND YOUR PRODUCT!!!!
Same issue here. I paid once to have it serviced. He told is that this happens with so many of these units. He also told us what to do but we've gotten to the point where it won't make any ice at all. Fridge is less than two years old. Total bullcrap. I will never buy Samsung again.
I have the same problem. We purchased the unit in Nov 2016 with a 3-year extended warrenty (model RF22KREDBSR) and the problems started showing up about 6 months later and still continues. I read in this string about a tech bulletin and fix. Does anyone know if the fix works?
