What happens to refrigerator when you turn off the ice maker for long term.

I have finally given up on my Samsung RF28HMEDBSR/AA 4 door refrigerator. Loved the design when I bought it but reliabilty has been horrible. After numerous repairs for only temporary results, I have gotten tired of defrosting the icemaker every month and have relegated this refrigerator to the garage. No desire to use icemaker so I have turned it OFF.
My question is does the Ice Maker cold room still get cold and will I continue to have freezing problems even though there is no water flow?
Can I physically remove the Ice Maker and components to use that space for storage?
